7870 Random black screens

New card i've had for just a few days, i'm getting random black screens while the card is at idle clocks. No CTD it just goes blank and I have to reset the PC.

Happens on both dvi and hdmi ports with both 12.3 and 12.6 catalyst drivers and at stock clocks.

It happens randomly and while i'm either using FF or the PC is just idle, it hasn't happened yet during gaming.

A quick google search brings up loads of people with the same issues and it can maybe be fixed by raising 2D idle clocks slightly in CCC profile or MSI afterburner.

Is this right and should be card be doing this and if it IS caused by this why haven't AMD fixed it..........

I really don't want to continually suffer these black screens or accept it as normal if it IS the card that's faulty.

I had this while leaving my PC on to download some games on steam. I thought it was a monitor or mouse problem. Guess it's the GPU.

Updated to 12.7 beta after I made the last post and left on idle. Hasn't happened since. Seems a bit more stable in heaven too.

I'll do that now. As well as this monitor problem I have been getting some artifacting at one point. And also a BSOD while playing L4D2.

Ahh I just got a near crash twice. My display driver stopped working then apprently 'recovered'.
