7900 GT clock speed Quest (noob?)

OK I'll ask a question and be shot down by it....

Installed a 7900gt and just ran coolbits and rivatuner to check clock speed. so they read....

core = 450MHz
mem = 660MHz

I'm assuming the mem should be doubled to get 1320Mhz -- Right?

However, I run ATItool to check the cube and it gives me the clock speeds as 330, halved again - do I assume that the 330 should be x4 to get the effective speed? and the ATItool does 'sums' with speeds? Or is there something more sinister? :o

I don't know what ATItool is doing but I'd trust Coolbits (and probably Rivatuner) more here, the fact that they all are all multiples of the correct speed is also a fair indication that everything is ok I would think.

Basically my advice is not to worry too much as it sounds like ATItool is incorrectly reporting the memory speeds.

Just done a quick 3d05 test and it gives me 7.6k (right after a load of ms updates so prolly not best time) butis that about right?

I get the same readings in Rivatuner & ATITool. Nothing sinister here, they are just simple multiples.

I use Rivatuner mostly as I think it has a nicer interface plus it will log your temps etc

I tend to just use ATITool to scan for artifacts when overclocking.

My 7800GT at stock gets that so i dont think so :p You should be around 8.6k stock?

Sounds about right. I'd give it a few days to bed in and then see if you can get past 9k which you ought to be able to do at stock voltage. I got mine to 10394 @ 630/1760 but that was with the 1.4v mod. I'm sure the memory will go a lot higher but I didn't want to fry the memory and the gains were slowing right down by this stage anyway.

My max core was 540 before the mod and gave me 9158 points in 05.
