7900 XTX Availability UK

at least in the UK which is a relatively small/insignificant market.

I know we like to talk ourselves down all the time but this is just a false narrative.

Nvidia's retail partner is the largest seller of FE cards in Europe...that doesn't happen by being a 'small/insignificant market'

I would want an MBA version of the 7900xtx at a sensible price too, I don't want anything bigger so it fits, and not 2 to 3 pcie slots wide. All AIB models of the 6900xt or XTX are much longer and wider than MBA version, the only card that was the same in size apart from width was the gigabyte 6900xt gaming.
If i cant purchase a MBA version of the 7900xtx then i shall just wait until well next year when stock is available. If not will stick with my 6900xt untill RDNA 4 and sensible pricing. The PC world has gone price increase MAD.

The PC market has gone crazy with prices, GPU's, motherboards, CPU's, Memory, the list goes on. and 2 years down the road it's all half the value or less.

We continually need to bear witness to our discontent here with our consumer choices. I was recently considering upgrading my platform and CPU. You can't find a z690 motherboard for less than £180 -- and this is before the inflated prices of new CPUs (from both camps). Threshold for the amount of bilking I'll accept has been well passed.

I'm sticking with my 5900x for the next year or two at least at which point there will be a new platform and CPU. And I'm very much considering sticking with my 3090 and skipping this gen of GPUs for the first time in 25 years. So, now instead of Intel or AMD or nV getting my money, I skip a gen and they get exactly nothing.

Financially it made sense to stay upgrading each gen on high end cards as you made most of your money back and got a sizeable jump in perf to boot.
Now is not the case financially

That is mostly because most of EU does NOT have FE versions at all. It's only a handful countries that do, world-wise. And if they can't buy it at all, they can't be a big market for it, can they?

This is what I was doing as well. Though usually middle shelf and relatively recently higher ones. But, I can see already 4080 FE is all sold out instantly on release, even with bad pricing. OC has some still, but many other shops are down to only models that are close to 4090 price (Strix). And that was minutes after release. If AMD release looks similar, I see slim chances to get any sensibly priced GPU, plus AIB will likely add £200-£300 to the price in many cases, over MSRP (like they do with NVIDIA)... Fingers crossed OCUK can secure huge amount of these.

I've still got a 1080ti (£720), as that was the last time anything was reasonably priced!

You will have to speak to the FE retailer of choice in the UK, who say they sell more FE cards than anywhere else in Europe...and they only ship FE cards to UK based customers.
I've not seen that statement, but I doubt they also have any view in EU statistics (why would they?). Likely just empty marketing talk.

That's just it. In the past, I was able to step up for a few hundred dollars/pounds, less if I strategically times when I sold my old card. The initial investment I made years ago (Voodoo 2 was the first top tier card I remember buying) has been rolled forward again and again with an aggregate but not acute reinvestment every generation.

Now, I'm looking at paying nearly 2x the price for the same tier card I had this generation with precisely zero improvement on price/performance. It's a boondoggle. Honestly, I think us enthusiasts who love this hobby -- especially those who have been in this game for a while -- need to be asking where is this is going. A lot of us saw the writing on the wall i.e. where nV (followed by AMD) when Turing prices were announced a few years ago. Heck, a lot of us with consumer retail and product pricing experience saw it when nV started aggressive model segmentation and other price-raising malarky e.g. founders edition years prior. But do we expect price increases to rise ad infinitum with every new model?
