Hi

My computer is getting creamed by Crysis demo 1024 x 768 medium (and no AA)

20 fps on fraps sometimes...

How are others coping with 7 series cards and 8600/2600?

It might be time to move to a 2900pro/ 8800GT soon

Lol first of all, your name is fraps?

And second.. turn settings down?

Third....... you could've posted in one of the other few threads about it

My 7900GTO handles it OK at 1680x1050 all medium except shadows and no AA.
Often down to 20fps though.

If you're really dissatisfied then look at the 8800GT if it comes out at a nice price

My 7900GS handles it just fine. All settings at medium apart from shadows and physics which are on low. With 2xFSAA it gives me 40fps @ 1280x960 and is perfectly playable.

Athlon64 X2 4200+ 'Toledo' @ 2.6GHz
2GB Mushkin PC3200
7900GS 512MB PCI-e
Audigy 2
XP Home

OK, I'll put shadows and physics on low and give it a go.

My 7800GT runs fine crysis with everything on medium apart from shadows and the res @1280x1024 :)
I just checked with fraps and i'm getting between 20-30 fps outside and 40 indoors :)

You dont need physics on low, that just stresses the cpu afaik. You wont get any buildings blowing up if you do that, no fun

I think 20fps is ok in this game, sounds like you really should upgrade if you expect more of a brand new game.

I get 20fps on high at 760p with a x1950pro

My PC7900GS runs it ok on medium. .1680x1050.. But it does have 4 gig of ram, which might be helping. XP Pro

And my laptop runs it fine on High 8700M GT 512mb, 2G gig ram, 1024x768.

Try different drivers, first if no joy might have to consider an upgrade.

I've only experimented with high settings on an 8800GTS, but resolution and antialiasing make a big difference for me. Drop the FSAA (to zero or x2), then drop the resolution. I can play very smoothly at 1280x1024, x2fsaa. No fsaa makes it significantly smoother though, which implies it might be a VRAM issue, given that low levels of fsaa are basically added 'for free' by the hardware these days.

In recent years we've been spoiled by games which -- to be honest -- didn't justify the cost of fast hardware. The only reason to upgrade was to drive ridiculously large screens*. It looks like we're now back to 'normal', and high frame rates at native resolution are no longer to be taken for granted. That's a bad thing for those on a tight budget, but a good thing for OcUK's bottom line. :-)

*Ok, some flight/driving sims have always eaten whatever CPU power you can throw at them.
