Hi there a friend is offering his week old 7900 gs for under 55 pounds should i buy or 1950 pro 256 brand new are 7900gs reliable?

The 7900GT was the one that had some issues and the GS came out to rectify them iirc.
For £55 might aswell take it (if you need it), not a bad card and it's a reasonable price.

my dads got a 7900gs in his rig and it seems to be about a 3rd faster than my x800gto.

he's had it for just over a year with no problems except the odd driver one.

7900GS' clock quite nicely. They're a bit slower than the X1950 Pro, both at stock but the 7900GS can clock well. Have had mine up at 620MHz Core and 1800MHz Memory. A fair few 7900's have died quite quickly but problems were slowly rectified over the months, with different memory chips and if I recall correctly a different core revision. Have had mine for a month and a bit and bought it for £65 delivered. While it was just £15 less than the X1950 Pro, I certainly don't regret my decision.

£55 inc sounds alright for a 7900GS, but might be worth trying to blag £50 inc as you can sometimes get used X1800XT's and X1900XT/X1950 Pro's for around 55-60. Especially if it's a friend ;)
