Was the month wait for the 7900gtx 512mb card worth it over getting the ATi X1900 XTX???
They both seem to perform much the same.
wouldnt say better iq they seem 2 be very close since the7900'stesta12 said:It seems at present ATI have better intelligence quotient (latin for image quality).
However, NVIDIA drivers are better & more stable. The GTX cards look much nicer with that metal cooler. They run cooler and more quietly, requiring less power.
Difficult choice between the two. If it weren't for the price, I'd say go NVIDIA
But no, that extra month wasn't worth the wait. We all hoped for a lot more from the 7900 series. We wanted 32 pipes, we only got 24. We wanted 700-750MHz, we only got 650MHz.
With any luck they will get it right again with the G80, we'll have to wait and see.

lol ok fair pointtesta12 said:Yes, I suppose it would depend on the case you own. Anyway, looks better than a big white slab of plastic i.e. my saffire x1900xtx![]()

i would say you can indeed be classed as a gamerspeeduk said:Not sure if the ATI drivers are worse or less stable? They seem pretty good at the moment.
No probs here running x1900 cat 6.2 on FEAR, Q4, BF2, Battlefront 2, Empire at war, X3, Bloodrayne 2, Fable, GT legends and Dungeon Siege 2.

speeduk said:Yup they are pretty similar. The 7900 leads in some games and the x1900 in others.
7900 runs cooler and uses less power but is a tad more expensive at the moment.
Have a look at some benchmarks and see how each card does in your fave games.
Creidiki said:Also, the stock cooler on the x1900 is criminally poor - were talking 90c (on XTXs) @ stock (and sometimes crashes) easily in well-vented cases. So if you do get one, do yourself (and your ears) a favour and get a VF900.
Creidiki said:Performance atm is the same. The X1900 has better IQ but runs far hotter (and draws much more power). The 7900 is a much more power-efficient design - and a much smaller core.
Depending on how much pixel shader and SM3.0 stuff new games will use, the X1900 will pull ahead - its a more powerful chip in reality, but games dont use that power atm.
If i was planning to run 2 cards, id go for the 7900. The extra power draw, heat and the maturity of SLi (both in hardware and software) vs crossfire makes it a winner imo. Ofc, price is an issue too
Also, the stock cooler on the x1900 is criminally poor - were talking 90c (on XTXs) @ stock (and sometimes crashes) easily in well-vented cases. So if you do get one, do yourself (and your ears) a favour and get a VF900. The Accelero X2 wont improve temps (though it is quieter).
As far as im concerned - I heart my X1900XTX, but im cooling it with H20
Oh, and I only ever run Omega drivers on my ATI cards![]()
