7900X and 7900XT - WTF so hot?

Ok so he has reduced the power limit -10 and capped the core clock and it has helped a bit but is still pulling a significant amount for the frames he is getting. Thanks for the help. He is now in a bit of a conflict whether to game 4k, drop to 1440p, change graphics card etc etc.

I'd trade his 7900xtx for my AMD 480 that runs cool only draws 100W

Drop the quality down to low and see what happens.
And try running in windowed mode 1440p and 1080p to see what happens.

I'd be very surprised if it's not possible to tame it.

You don't to do anything as drastic as reduce core clocks or power limits, just take 100mv off the core voltage and go from there. Then you can reduce boost clocks, reduce voltage etc. But just undervolting it a bit will reduce temps and increase performance. Reduce boost clock if necessary.

99% GPU utlisation is desirable and completely normal. It doesn't necessarily mean you GPU is boosting to it's max. It will probably still show 99% util at 720p, but will be boosting lower.
