Hi all,

I am strongly considering getting myself an eyefinity setup as I now have the desk space to do so.

Will my Sapphire OC 7950 be able to drive 3 screens @1080p with acceptable performance?

I am also at the dilemna as to keep my current samsung monitor, with it's relatively thick bezels and add 2 new screens, or buy 3 matching monitors (and face the wrath of the gf!). Suggestions?

Thanks,

I ran eyefinity with a single 7970 and all the games i tried were playable with decent settings so i guess an oc 7950 would also work well, i would get 3 matching screens to avoid any difference in colour shades

You'll have to drop to medium/low settings in the more demanding games. Otherwise it'll be OK. Don't expect miracles though - that resolution requires a lot of GPU grunt.

(I've tried SLI 680 Surround and CF 7950 Eyefinity).

Don't really want to have to spend money on another GPU as well. The cost of 3 screens is scary enough.

Any suggestions on a suitable screen for this plan? Whilst keeping costs to a minimum?
I might buy one now and get the other 2 around Christmas time so I can force people to buy them as presents :P.

I am correct in thinking I'll need one of these active display port adapters? As my gpu has 1 DVI, 2 MiniDP and 1 HDMI. The HDMI port is being used to connect my tv for movie watching and so it has to stay that way.

2 more of your current monitors maybe?

One output needs an active DP, the rest is up to you.

I you're looking for a new set of monitors, I personally would suggest the Sammy S23A750D for around £250 each. 3D LED (you probably won't be able to play all 3 screens in 3D with a single card) and they have DP

You'll probably need a second card to get decent frame rates however,

I'd get the monitors first then add a second card if you find you need it.

Not really interested in 3D tbh. And that would surely kill my single GPU! As long as there is an active display port - DVI adapter I can use 3 DVI cables correct? As there are limited monitors with an actual display port input.

That was my thinking.

If i was doing eyefinity again i would look for 3 22" 1680x1050 if you can find them because i think 16.10 monitors look better and the lower res would be a bit more easier on the gpu

I used to have a 6950 running 5760x1080x32 and had absolutely no worries with frame rates at great to 'WOW' settings.

Have now moved on to a 7970 and running at 5760x1200x32 and that creams anything that I run on that.

You should have no worries at all....
