7950 crossfire card usage query

Hello,
My card are #1 HIS 7950 ICEQ turbo and #2 is a reference VTX.
Both are at 925/1250 with +20% power through CCC overdrive

In Arma3 both cards ramp up to 925 but card 1 keeps dropping down to 810/850 then back up to 925.

In BF4 card 1 runs 925 and 2 sits at 300 (unused I'm guessing)

Any ideas what to try? I'm using CCC 14.4rc

If your ice q is a boost version you will have problems with random down clocking in crossfire. You will have to flash a non boost bios to it to fix it. Also make sure you have disable ULPS checked in Afterburner.

Crossfire enable in ccc? Bf4 running in full screen?

CCC is certainly enabled and BF4 is in full screen. I thought about adding a custom profile for bf4 but to treat it as bf3?

I'm fairly sure it is a boost version but I think it's twin bios so I can have a look at flashing a non boost bios (step into the unknown) I've disabled ULPS in registry but I haven't recently checked to make sure it is. Usually I hear the card fan blow before gaming indicating it's doing ULPS and I haven't heard it but I'll check anyway :-)

Make sure crossfire is enabled when your playing bf4, sounds like it's not enabled for some reason, also, in afterburner try set your clocks just a few MHz higher for both cards so you know that when your on a game they should be both running the clocks you have set them at. Also if you are scared about flashing them don't be it's the easiest thing ever, but before you do it. If you say it's just gpu2 that doesn't speed up well try swap them around see what happens. :)

When I got my second 7950 though it was supposed to be an identical card the clocks and power and everything in the bios was totally different, leading to one card being able to clock higher and one less, I can't remember the name of the tools I used to edit the bios and flash the cards, but I basically just made my own bios with a slight overclock, and a bit extra power and used the same bios for both gpus. I'm not at home at the moment but when I am I'll have a look what the name of the tool was to flash the bios and edit them is called. To flash them I think it was called ati win flash.
Oh also it was ltmatt who pointed out to me that my cards bios was different and he got me into bios flashing etc so quick shout out for you buddy top fella!

For some reason when I install msi afterburner crossfire stops working in Crysis 3.I've checked different drivers (14.4 and 14.7).All other games are fine.

Yeah I get the same issue I think it's something to do with origin as it's the same in titanfall , I just use fraps and gpu-z for monitoring but sometimes it can play up with that too ! Titanfall doesn't even launch with afterburner running ...

Hm Dead Space 3 is working without problem with msi afterburner and OC on.
It might be something wrong with games though?

I havent had a chance to try this yet but it did dawn on me, I downclocked the gPU's recently from 950. I'm guessing moving them from 950 to the HIS stock speed of 925 may have made this problem. When I get a chance to have a tinker I'll try ramping it up to 950 again to see if it does the same.

Throttling gpu's, see this thread. Shout if you need help.

I've already told you what the problem is OP. :)

Unless you've flashed the bios on your cards to a non throttling one, you'll be throttling both cards in any demanding titles that push the gpu utilisation right up.

My 7950's never throttled when they were run in Crossfire.

It only affects boost 7950 cards. If yours were the older 7950's then they will be fine. If the OP uploads one of his 7950 bios ill take a look. If it's a boost card, i'll bet my life savings it's throttling.

Yeah my friend had two HIS 7950s (blower fan ones) in crossfire and they both had the same throttling problem.

That's a lot you're putting at risk Matt :p
