Hiya I've been looking at rustys thread about 7950 CF setup and I've been thinking could I sell my 670 for around £250 which will fund one of the twin frozr 7950 then I would buy another 7950 as the performance seems incredible for the price, and you may think a 7950 overclocked would do for a 1080p monitor but with this upgrade I plan to purchase a 1440p monitor to get the most out of the cards what are your guys opinions on my plan on upgrading.

If you want to go higher res than yes, if you are not too bothered stay with current setup.
Why dont you get a another 670 for sli? You can find a refrence 670 for 260 which would be better with the air flow bla bla bla, you now what i mean.

7950 CF would be a nice upgrade, but i never recommend CF because of the performance losses in FPS etc.

With another 670 I'd need a new PSU right ? And when you say FPS issues you mean sli and cf ?

Yes, the drops are sometimes annoying. I did play on any riq with SLI or CF since DX 10, because most of the people around me (friends) use 1 card.
Its not that bad as it was back than, some gamers get annoyed by this and some dont even notice it.

I would go for 7950s if you really want to go higher Res.
But another 670 would serve you well and also less power hungry but if you are buying a setup like this i dont think you care about this as much.
Nvidia has great 3D and pshyx, AMD better buy with better performance.

Its all personal prefrence.

What psu do you have?

Tbh...if you think you need a new PSU for SLI, you'll defo need a new one for CF.
AMD is slightly more power hungry than the Nvidia counterparts.

CF 7950 @2560 would beat SLI 670 @2560, Rusty's thread proves that.
If you can swap your card for the 7950 in would say go for it, free games and a new toy to play with.

What is your PSU btw? It's probably better than you think.

Corsair TX650, well I get some FPS drops in games at the moment but these games are in alpha and beta but if you say more FPS drops will happen I won't upgrade

PSU should be fine :)

I'd get another 670 if you need the power, you'll most likely lose some money by switching to AMD from your current setup.

The drops will happen for less than a second. As I said not many people see the microshuttering, go for 7950 but you would probably need a better psu. 750w +
In your place i would wait till 8xxx series comes out. Isnt 670 enough for these days games? Beta games always have problems with drops of FPS...:(

As OP buy another 670 and save the cash or put it towards a better monitor!

I'm playing smite and War Z if you have heard of these games I would like max them out on a 1440p monitor, warz at the moment I can't play on low in major cities with 60 FPS o

Than go for 7950 CF, but you will need a better psu since 1 7950 is 200w withe new drivers its slightly over.
Are you on air or WC?

That PSU will be fine but any major overclocking could see it struggle. My advice if you do go CF 7950s is buy a ten quid power monitor and see what you are pulling at the wall. Better to be safe rather than sorry :)

What game could I play to test everything at the moment is running alright ? Too see if these dips are game related or pc related

Is my overclock on my 670 going to take that much power if I was to sli and overclock the second card to the same if possible

No idea but that auction site sells them power monitors and I bought one to see what power I was pulling. I was surprised how high it was but I do run very high clocks (some times).

£10 it cost and worth every penny for my own peace of mind.

Heaven would be the best bet.

To test if your PSU is stable run prime and furmark together ;)

(I take no responsibility for the hippies that will bombard you with pathetic, empty, tree hugging threats after you cause a global warming related apocalypse)
