The famous 7950...

I have tried to suggested motherboards by Nvidia

Namely the Abit AA9 DuraMax (suggested version 24, i have 25)
and the Gigabyte GA-8I945P-G (suggeted version F5, i had F5)

I have turned on Multi GPU Support in nvidia's fancy new panel.

I have tried a 460W PSU, i have tried a 530W PSU

Doom3 gives me identical results as my old 7800 GT = 70 FPS
3DMark05 gives me the same old doddle 6700** points.

I have updated my motherboard drivers, with my system specs as follows

CPU = Intel 3.2Mhz 1Meg Cache 540 series CPU with 90nm process
DDR = Samsung DDR2 running 533mhz.

Im running drivers 91.33.

Any ideas anyone? What am i missing!!!! :confused: :(

This thing doesnt run a mouse squeek faster than a plane old jane 7800GT

** Correction, its 8150 Points in 3DMark 05
* 5450 Points in 3DMark 06

cpu-z states that my graphics interface is x8, isnt this ment to be x16???

What sets this, the bios, or the card??

This has to be something?!?

If its a bottleneck, what cpu do i have to get to get this going.

Regards

thats madness. im sorry but no. if you guys would have bothered to check the orb you'd see the lowest recorded score for a pentium D is 7,605, and that with the cpu running @2.66ghz. There is no way a 3.2ghz p4 will bottleneck the pc to such an extent that a 7950 scores less in '05 that a x800gto2.

look at settings and drivers. did you do a fresh install when swapping motherboard? did you clean ther drivers problems before installing the card?

I dont believe its a bottle neck at all. (*Edit, It was :o )

Can anyone answer me why CPU-Z stats a x8 link status, and not a x16!

Its a fresh install on a 2ND! motherboard now. I just CANNOT understand why it doesnt work.

Money is running thin now, i cant just keep blowing dosh on nvidia's "recommeded" list.

Besides the 7950 not working, i just dont know

Something to do with it running in SLI mode? I'm not sure exactly how these cards work tbh but that's what I'd guess.

Yea "Multi GPU support" it does jack.

The drivers dont mention SLI anywhere. This thing should just work, but that x8 is giving possibly a clue, or just enforcing that fact that its only 1 card running.

Yes, fresh install, like i always do.

If i cant get this working, it has to be the video card.

Its 8x as its running in SLI mode.

Your score on a second look does look low: Here are two comparison scores from one of the benchmark threads on guru3d -

3dmark05: 9300
3dmark06: 6800

Pentium D 940 3.2
2gb Hyundai ddr 533
XFX Geforce 7950gx2 Xtreme

3dmark05 = 14002
3dmark06 = 8088
3dmark03 = 30200

So judging by that you score is too low. But the p4 is still seriously limiting the performance.

Have you tried the normal tings to look at:

AA and AF should be off
V sync again should be off (This can seriously hamper your score if left on)

Yes, VSync off, and running plain old graphics in 1024x768, no AA, no AF.

and it still just doesnt perform.

So is x8 fine then to get that full performance im suppost to get.

It is the same speed as my old card, not even 0.001% faster, so i beleve this is running in single card mode.

I dont understand how jumping lets say, 400mhz will suddenly give me that raw "x2" the speed. I got the same results with the gigabyte mobo.

maybe it is a bottleneck, well if i upgrade, and this still doesnt work. im going to be one unhappy person.

Is there anyway of telling if the card is SLI'd. Just want to know that its ok.

Unsure at the moment (should be receiving my 7950 tommorow) However if its anything like when I had twin 7800GTX's you shoul dbe able to choose single gpu rendering or multi gpu rendering in the same menu where you can choose the AA options.
