7950 lovin and OC's thread

6970 at £299 was NEVER an amazing bargain, even slightly, more specifically because it launched at £270 iirc, and even more specifically, because a 10% slower 6970 costs 25% less and was a much much better bargain, even less of a bargain because while slower a 5850 was also available for £190 on launch, and was available well over 2 years before a 7950. Two years to double the performance and increase price over £160 for launch and months later get that down to £100 more..... no bargain there.

Great cards, sure, great bargain, not a chance, a 7950 at closer to £250 would be spot on, considering the versions we've gotten at £314, a reference version should really be going for £270ish.

DM be aware there is a fairly large price drop coming from AMD(few days away), see the thread about it in this forum. My 7950 is going back despite the price I have my eye on a TFIII or even a 7970 now.

Hmm, I'm half tempted to upgrade mine to a Sapphire 7970...

Random one: I have an ASUS Xonar D2X. Can I put it in a full length PCI slot?

Should be fine.

Tried a bit more testing/benching, but seems where I was stable at 1160 @ 1.218V the other day, doesn't seem to like it any more :(

Don't think I have changed anything that would effect it.

And not sure all the new fans are doing much of anything for temps, but didn't get a lot of time to try things last night.

Got plenty of time to try things this weekend I guess...

Or maybe should just return these and get 7970's.

I've just had a look at the beginners OCing thread but there are about 10 links to choose from. What are 2 simple tools i can use to bench my i7 and my 7950. I know it seems lazy but I've looked at a few sites and i can never tell what is trust worthy.

If anyone can just give me 2 simple names/links i would be in your debt.

Thanks

Yeah i was playing BF3 last night with everything on ultra and getting between 40-60 fps set at 1000/1335.

I'll have to give Heaven a go when i get home, thanks!

I put a 1x PCIe TV card into a full length slot on my mobo and it dropped the PCIe to 8x on the gfx card. Depends if you have 2 no. 16x slots I suppose.

So anything that'll let me get MSI to let me get over 1200/1600?

I don't really want to use any other software, I've used MSI for ages.

Just tried the Asus one and it just crashed.

Yes, right click on the afterburner shortcut, and click on properties.

Add "-xcl" to the end of the line (with a space and not using the quotes), and click ok.

double click the shortcut, and afterburner will give you some message about re-starting.

Before restarting, go back to the properties for the shortcut and remove the -xcl parameter.

Restart and you should be good to go.

Thought had convinced myself that I didn't want to go 7970 reference when price drops cam ein, but am tempted.

Still within my 30 return window at place I got my DCU II's from...

I'm trying to understand what the hell's going on. There is a massive thread going on about 7850's being clocked to 1200/1500, yet i havent seen anyone on here cloak over that with a better card. What have i just shelled out 100 quid extra for?

the 7950 core is more powerful than a 7850 core, that sucks more juice.

A 7950 at, say, 1100 will still beat a 7850 at 1200.

I imagine at 1200 core, a 7850 will be about equivalent of 7950 at stock. not sure though
