7950 lovin and OC's thread

Oh thats good :) glad to hear that. Thanks eyetrip. Has anyone got 1200/1600 running stable yet.

Another question is, what do you think is the max temp i should be running at stable/ingame.

Atm im looking at like 36/61

Any results MilanoChris?

TBH, I can't get it higher than 1250/1615 ish, without going crazy on the volts, which I'm not really prepared to do.

I'm trying to understand what the hell's going on. There is a massive thread going on about 7850's being clocked to 1200/1500, yet i havent seen anyone on here cloak over that with a better card. What have i just shelled out 100 quid extra for?

I have mine at 1100/1500 24/7, I could go to 1200/1600 with 1250mV instead of 1150mV (still testing stability and lowering the voltage as and when I'm home).

Even at stock speeds of 900/1250 (OC edition) my card will beat most clocked 7850's.

There's a lot more to GPU's than just clock frequencies.

I have ordered a Sapphire 7950 OC for my pc. I went for the Sapphire for the cooler being quite. The 7970's I have used in builds have been rather noisy under load.

Exactly the reason I went for the Sapphire, means I don't have to mess about changing fans as I know the reference ones can be quite noise.

The HSF on the OC edition is a nice bit of kit and stays quiet in games.

My Sapphire OC arrived today. Not having much fun with it as any kind of overclock above stock causes either the display driver to stop reponding or the pc to freeze and require a re-start.

What does the bios switch do as I seem to have the same at either setting. ?

firstly, put it in position 2, which allows higher OC

secondly, install sapphire trixx, and once installed and restarted, on the settings page, tick the box to disable ulps. Restart, and see how you get on with OCing after that.

While I thought that only affected crossfire setups, perhaps it is single cards as well.

Tbh I'm going to re-install windows and have a fresh setup first. I have had quite a collection of cards in the system over the last few weeks so the drivers and registry are more than likely messed up.

Will try what you suggest once re-loaded a bit later.

One thing I like so far is the card is silent even when gaming. It's quite amazing that I cannot hear the card at all.....

I had a fresh windows install on my spare SSD and have now tried the card at stock and it still crashes the driver if put under load even at stock.

If I run Furmark the temp reaches around 65.c and then the driver re-sets. With Heaven it runs for a few mins then I get lots of lines on the screen and need to re-start.

Looks like mine is faulty...:(

I have it running stock ok now. Any increase in the mem clock causes the screen to line and freeze with or without voltage increase...

Does it run okay at stock when stressed? Seems odd but if it runs okay at stock it sounds more like software, should oc even by a small amount...

Seems to be ok at stock furmark and 3dmark are running ok. The core can be clocked up and it's fine but even a 50mhz increase on the Ram causes it to freeze....
