7970 hdmi audio

ok ive backed up my current config using acronis and restored an image with only a basic install of windows on it.
I installed the ati cd that came with the card and im still getting the same problems, 1 audio amd channel working the others are saying unplugged and wont let me update the drivers from microsoft ones.

I really don't see what your problem is mate? To me that screenshot is what I have... one AMD driver for it's HDMI out? What are you trying to do?

Are you setting that as default? Right click it and set it as default.

Is the TV capable of accepting HDMI audio?

that screen shot shows audio unplugged and therefor not sending anything over 2 channels to the amp or the tv depending on where i plug it in, and the tv and amp worked fine with the 5850 and i had full surround sound and none of the audio was showing as unplugged, if yours is the same then have you checked what audio streams you can use over hdmi ie above 2 channel in the config?

ok this is odd ive just plugged the card into my amp and now i get up to 7.1 as i should where as in the tv i only getting 2.0, now ive had more than this before so not sure whats different?
So appologies to you, you were correct, still odd i couldnt get the audio device to work at all to start with though? but many thanks will play more tomorrow as its exceedingly late.

I have the same issue .
My 7970 is using a windows driver and will only output 2.0 audio.
Tried installing Realtek driver from comment above. That removes all the hdmi icons in my sound manager and replaces them with one called 'ati hdmi audio' but it says disconnected

My sound manager is showing 5 audio devices when using ati driver which is correct. However, the connected device (my onyko 7.1) , only gives an option to output 2.0 and not 7.1.
Anybody have and ideas on how to fix it ?

It's normal for your card to report stereo when plugged into the TV, and 7.1 into the Amp. It's reading the IDs from the TID and being told the TV is a stereo device, it enables 7.1 when you plug into the amp as that reports it is capable of 7.1

I have my 7970 connected to my amp via HDMI and its only giving me stereo, with no option to enable multichannel.
If it's reading ID's as u say, it must be reading the ID from my onkyo reciever wrong.
