7970 vs GTX 580 in nVidia’s Endless City tessellation demo

I gave up doubt nvidia would do much when they find im trying to run it on an amd gpu.. its the crack program that does it for me for some reason?

EDIT:Aborted due to the post below!

Its not a good comparison as the demo is optimised for nvidia cards. One guy with a gtx580 scored 60fps with tesselation on. I think any card from the gtx470 up should score better on this compared with a 7970. The gts450 is faster in this demo than a 5850 which says it all.

OP, what card/results you got?

tessellation demo doesn't works with my GT240 DX10.1 card, it requires DX11 card :( and i just want to know who is faster 580 or 7970 in the tessellation demo by Nvidia. it interesting for me, 7970 has two tessellators and 580GTX has not more 16 tess ;)

The demo is configured for NVidia cards. It's like trying to see how far a diesel lorry will run on petrol compared to a diesel lorry on diesel.

7970 is faster with tessellation up until a point but then performance drops off a cliff to 560Ti levels, that's why AMD still have driver 'optimizations' that force lower tessellation levels.

Not sure whether it's useful or not but ran it at 1920x1080
2 minutes on autopilot mode 61fps average with fraps.

That's with 2600k @ stock and 580 GTX SLI

It seems that as it's cuda maybe it's only making use of a single GTX580 as others have had similar results with one card.

They did that on Brainiac Scienace Abuse a few years ago, except it wasn't a lorry but a car.

I did about 200 miles I think, but by the end was belching black smoke and revving its nuts off :)

This.
That's why it's interesting to check with every new generation of AMD cards to see where their tessellation performance is now.
The 7970 is at least good enough to run Crysis 2 without forcing lower tessellation levels.

nVidia's Endless City is not 'optimized for nVidia cards'. It's just a DX11 application that uses tessellation. They blocked out other vendors, but I removed the block and stripped all the Cuda code, so it now is a vanilla DX11 application that runs on any DX11 GPU. As a result it is now a very interesting tessellation benchmark, since it pushes tessellation well beyond any other game or benchmark out there.
