7970 Xfire or something else.....?

I decided on a Dell Ultrasharp 1440p monitor which should be in my loving arms on Friday!

Any idea on the prognosis for my 7970 being able to run stuff on that sort of res?

a single 7970 copes very well at 1400p, when call of duty ghosts came out crossfire was not working and i played it fine with a single 7970 at 2560x1440 as for 7970 crossfire the most demanding game i played at the time was crysis 3 and that was no problem for this setup

If I were you I would get the 290x or the 970. Simply because you will run into Crossfire issues on some games, so it might be better to have a single, powerful GPU that will give you stability.

And you could always throw in another 970/290x down the line and last for a nice long time.

I see this argument quite often. If he did get a 970 when he needed a second someone would advise he get the next single card as a second 970 miggt have issues in some games ;)

Well I got the monitor today (so sexy!) and managed to test 3 games.

Alien Isolation runs like an utter dream.
The Evil Within I manage between 30-35 FPS with everything on the highest setting.
Dragon Age Inquisition I get an average of 26 FPS with everything on Ultra. So that will need dropping down a bit!

I'm just waiting for the new AMD cards to surface before I decide what to do. But a crossfire 7970 setup sure is tempting.
