7970 xfire

just got my second 7970 and quite impressed so far, had to reinstall ccc to get xfire working but no big deal, ive read a lot of people claiming poor scaling with crysis 3 but seems to be working fine for me on 13.5 betas, gpu's never look to drop below 80% use and hver aroun 90 odd most of the time

What software do you use for fan settings etc?
No matter what I do, if I set a custom fan it works ok for 1 card but not both, seems to leave the other card on just 20% fan. But if I fix the fan speed it will cover both cards ok, taking some working out these but I do like the Crossfire setup, ran my cards at 1160/1660 earlier and they worked fine but to be honest I will run them at stock speeds as they run everything fine and very cool.

I had a play about with ab but didnt notice fan speeds as im still trying to work out how to get both gpu's temps to show up on osd because at the moment its only showing gpu 1

Mine are the same (2x 7950) unless you dissable ULPS - I think you can do it in AB now or in the registry. Shows up fine then.

Considering getting a 2nd 7970 which will go under water. Will prob require me adding some more radiator and possibly replacing my 850w psu.

Anyway, my question is, will I see a bottleneck? Currently running an admittedly ageing i7 920 D0 @ 4Ghz (altho could perhaps up the overclock a little given its now under water).

Cheers.

850w is plenty for 2 7970's

A 920 would bottleneck 2 7970s.
850w is more than ample for 2 7970s.

More powerfull and powerhungry 3930k.

evo just to let let you know that since ive disabled ulps afterburner fan settings are now working for both 7970's

sometimes when I load crysis 3 it doesn't "load" the crossfire... I need to alt+tab and go back to the game to get it working.

I also have one of this meters.
and this is 800W from the wall... the computer should be using 650 to 700w from the PSU.

My two Asus Matrix Platinum HD 7970s overclocked + 3970X @5.0ghz pulls 910 watts at the wall.:D

Depends what you're doing, mine peaked at 890w on Vantage and 840w on 3D11, both give a good representative idea on worst case gaming loads might be.
Nobody is gaming with maxed voltage sliders on their GPUs are they?! :D

I don't even overclock my cards when gaming, i just turn settings down :D I also only run my CPU @4Ghz for 24/7.

I don't overclock when I play games and only run the CPU @4.0 as well.

My 910 watts was in 3dmark11.

I know Vantage uses even more, my Titans do awful things to a 1500 watt PSU when running that. The PSU on Vantage makes a lot more noise than the rest of the PC put together.:D
