so Gigabyte hopefully sending me a for like for like replacement for the 7990 or my money back.

So, if i get my money back,
what cards/manufacturers should i look at?
don't really want Gigabyte as this is the 3rd card die on me before 12 months is up (2x windforce fans die on 7970s & 7990 Artfacting)

Resolution: 2560x1080
At the moment im using a 570 2.5GB, & its running really well, but to be honest only playing these atm:
Dota2
Fifa 14
Divinity Sins

Future
Witcher 3




i guess LTMatt would say 290 - xfire
i guess Gregster would say 780TI

which manfacturers are best on each side for quiet/cool & Should i just wait for the new cards and use 570 in the mean time?:eek: :p

: can go toe to toe with 290/290x
: wouldnt mind trying to Nvidia again

Downside
: Costs
: NO AMD Features
: Not as good at 4k? due to bus?

Benefits
: AMD Game Stuff (Mantle,Trueaudio)
: Cheaper
: 4GB vs 3GB
: Faster at 4k,High resolutions due to 512bit bus?

Downsides
: No Nvidia features

I keep switching thoughts though but tyger extra GB keep making me thinking twice

With the 7990 being EOL you will more than likely get credit / refund from the manufacturer / place of purchase.

The manufacturers do not have much buffered stock of the 7990 so it may be difficult to repair or replace.

well no news from Gigabyte yet :( getting restless and looking for which card to go for

780ti/290x looks identical in performance

wanted the card for Witcher 3, but not sure what features i could not get on AMD other than Physx

2x 290x are tempting.... specially being 700 vs 1000.....
 
anyone know what features i would not get on witcher 3?
the features ive found are

Physx - Nvidia only of course (unless CPU)
Hairworks - Hairworks works on both?
Fireworks - guess can be on both?
water effects - both?
Tessellation - both

if thats the case only missing Physx.
 
would suck a little, but least i can get away from Gigabyte then use them again. so many issues with them over the years..
 
if gigabyte try to give me a 290 i might have to reconsider

my first thought would be

1. sell it to OCUK before it was sent to me (cost price)

2. keep it and 1-2 more, but no nvidia features for witcher 3 :(


i was actually looking at my GPU history & reliability (not to say this how all cards are just my history)

6600GGT - died XFX to blame on that one reached 100c+
7600GT - never died sold it on after 14 months
3870 - died due to PSU blew up
8800GT - never died sold on after 18 months
2x 280GTX - still working sold @ work
2x 570 2.5GB - actually using these now still working!
Gigabyte 7970 - lasted 6 months- fan failing
Gigabyte 7970 - Lasted 7 months - fan failing
Gigabyte 7970Ghz Lasted 8 months - fan Failing
Gigabyte 7990 - artfacting at 80c

now you know why i dont like gigabyte :p

can you trust me the email/number?

personally I would not want 280x's, because i would want at least 290(s)
id be happier for a 1 290 than 2 280x easier to sell & its still cheaper than what i paid for it.

But im very tempted if they do offer me 1 290 to get 2 more :), though Gigabyte i would no longer touch from my history...
 
still no word for me but they only received it on the 11th i believe... :(

might chance OCUK tomorrow for the internal RMA number

"It was sent back to the manufacturer on the 12th August for them to either repair or replace, at this time we haven't heard anything back from them.

We do have to allow up to the 9th September 2014 for them to provide you with a replacement.

We will notify you as soon as we receive it."
 
an update for you.

They are returning me a 7990 (not sure if repair job or Replacment) although never know it might be a 290 ;)

Here is the technicians Test Report:
"CORRUPTIONS AND ARTIFACTS"

should arrive tomorrow as it was shipped today

its good i needed a card to use until AMD/NVidia cards hit (currently using 570..)

Also i may get a new full custom PC done when the new cards come out to...
with this spec (780TI would be 2x XXX card)
