Ive had more vtec engines than i can count on my fingers and thumbs, i love them but they are old news and become tiresome after a while, maybe stormster feels the same way, maybe he doesnt
What about a 130i M Sport?
Gets my vote... although not 200bhp and might be a bit ropey at £7k.
Do like BMW 1 series... are 130i's in budget? Would it fleece me on fixing stuff? I read plenty on here about BMW coolant systems going pop, expensive wishbones etc.
I'll quickly touch on Fox's post as we've been here before and I won't argue about it but my EP3 Type R used to do 45-50 miles consistently to £10 of fuel around town. Around town being 30mph residential roads. My Fiesta does 60 miles to £10. Fox is good with numbers, he can work out my real mpg from that.
The only things I can think of that might tick all those boxes are an Octavia vRS or Leon.
dear oh dear, had it missed its timing belt change interval?
Not the Octavia vRS, unless you want the one i've got sitting on my drive with a snapped timing belt which I have no inclination to fix.
I actually get more enjoyment driving the 1.25 Fiesta i picked up for £500 to see me through to selling the vRS and getting something else.
You are right - you'd be looking at more like 8k if you stick to the age mileage criteria and even that might not be enough to get a decent example.
I'm not sure it is possible to hit all the OPs requirements. Something is going to have to give or the budget increased!
