if you had 7k for a car that doesnt cost too much on petrol and insurance but is fun to drive and quite nippy what would you get?

It's implied, if he's bothered about insurance and fuel costs he's not going to have a huge pot of cash to fix things. He wants to run a car on a budget - make recommendations based on this.

An MX5 sounds like the most sensible suggestion so far.
