8 Bay ITX Server

Better than the 4 bay. The drive bays needs a work. Have told them this as they are twisted slightly. Defo needs to be bigger for CPU cooler. I let him log in and see what mine was doing and he agreed as an i5 system defo needs better cooling. I said to make the back fan removable and add the idea of a H60 - H100. PSU ditch it from 1u to SFX

Yep, I found the drive bays were pretty loose with big gaps between the drive trays. The space for a cpu and heatsink was tiny in the 4 bay unit and it not having a PCI slot on the back was a bit silly (the 8 bay has one). I also provided a lot of feedback as I was looking at using these for the basis of a new product (the 8 bay units were not available at the time).

The problem is that Yu Technologies is a NAS manufacturer rather than a case manufacturer and just happen to offer excess case stock for retail. Too many changes may cause problems for their own products so they tend to not get actioned.

Good to see they have done another run of the 8 bay unit though.

I haven't seen anyone mention it yet, but RAID 5 is a terrible choice with that much capacity, your rebuild times will be so long that you're likely to lose another disk in the process. You want to be on RAID 6 at a minimum.

Hi, long time forum reader, first time poster! I have a couple of newbie questions in regards to the NSC-800 i'm hoping someone can advise with.

From what I can gather the drive bays connect to a couple of molex connectors, so i wouldn't need a PSU with 8x SATA connections on. Am i correct in presuming that?

Does the NSC-800 come with the PCI riser? or is that something i would need to purchase separately?

Finally does any one recommend any PSU in particular for use with the NSC-800? I have never purchased a 1U PSU before so am just about to have a Google and see what's out there. I've calculated i shouldn't need more than 200w, so a 300w PSU should be plenty.
