8 GPU system possible running from home power socket?

I'd say get 4 to start with, then use dual risers to get 8 if you feel you need the power, in a motherboard like the Dual Socket SR-X so that you get enough bandwidth to the PCIe slots.

Okay, I get it, 2 slot spacing.

I didn;t think it would be possible to do all this on one computer. Can you elaborate more on the cooling? Do you know what temperatures you were getting? Did you OC the cards?

Cheers,
Jules

Cards are stock as this sort of stuff doesn't really like overclocked things and are not qualified if they are. Not sure about the temps either off the top of my head but it uses 6 x hot swap 120mm fans. Here is a link to the actual unit. http://www.tyan.com/(A(FiYhHIkVTNr0...pec.aspx?ProductType=BB&pid=512&SKU=600000379

That's quite a computer you've got there. What sort of stuff are you running on it?

Massive glops + Derby => you've got mail

Why not wait and get an Nvidia Grid VCA if you have the money to afford it - which it sounds like you might? Although I guess that may be more for teamwork solutions for running serious computer intensive programs on several computers...

2slots spacing = because of air cooling.
You'll need to modify each of them (warranty might be lost) and replace radiators & fans with waterblocks which should make cards 1-slot-thin. Last thing is to replace card mounting bracket with something 1-slot-wide, or at least cut off unnecessary area, losing one DVI connection (should be taped to PCB, but I might be wrong, haven't seen Titan naked under soo many angles yet) :=>

But will the motherboard be able to run so many graphic cards?
I am referring to PCI express lanes
Will it not be normal to get dual 2011 soket with some server cpu?

Some motherboards can run eight cards, some can't. Dual socket boards are more likely to than single socket, but the Tyan linked above is certainly unusual.
