8 Pack Builds

im pretty sure i could find the parts online somewhere....

but thats not the point.

8pack's system's and built for pure power and to demolish any other system.

he hand picks the hardware, builds them, clocks them. along side doing other things like demolishing world records and traveling around the world lol.

yes he could spare and extra hour tidying the cables up ect ect. but your not realy paying for that, your paying for his exp.

and to be honest, i don't think he would have the time to be tidying the cables up.

definetly true, you dont buy an 8Pack build for him to tidy the cabling, although from the pictures they look perfect anyway. you buy it because of his build and overclocking precision.

That is a good point hakank68. He is a celebrity in the world of PCs and thus buying into something he has been involved with, would be special for some. But ten grand is ten grand, you expect certain things as standard when a PC costs ten grand. Trust me, if you commit ten grand of your own cash to something, when you excitedly go to collect it your expectations would change. If it was a grand you wouldn't be bothered.

These 8Pack systems... they test 100's of cpu's before they decide which ones to put in those builds!?

Does that mean a huge chunk of all the cpu's sold by OCUK are slightly used, passed through the milking shed already. My chances of getting a very good overclocker out of a CPU are smaller than they already are, because the best are creamed off the top!?

They said in a different thread that they test "some" of the OEM CPU's that go into the systems, but the retail ones that come in a sealed box are not tested.

They also buy "batches", so if they find a batch that has good clockers, they will try to source more of that for their systems.. So chances are, you would have never had access to those good clockers anyway.

Some staff member can correct me on this.

I guess you have a slightly less chance of getting a good CPU if you buy an OEM system, but for retails its the same as everyone else.

It would be nice if OC would start selling the chips that don't quite make the overclock 8pack requires but are still good for say running @ 5ghz.

5 ghz  Thats more than the top end for any chips sold. When they don't make the grade I imagine they go into systems that aren't clocked as high (there's a few round 4.2). Also isn't the OP blatantly advertising for computer work on OC's own site. Bit much isn't it?

i dont think he was advertising, as hes not a company etc etc.
he was just stating that he has exp in building and could do a better job maybe ?, or do the job how hes stated it should be.

8pack isn't world 'famous' for his mod's - he's not an armani suit, city boy.
If you want style over substance - commission someone off MDPC

His 'expert' time premium is due to his tuning skills.
Look at the veins on his arms - does that say custom loom to you.

The price is not a direction reflection of it's aesthetics,
but I do understand to some for 10k they'd want both.
Yes it could be neater and yes it could be in a smaller case.
But I don't think it should be, he's not.
A 10k super slick system is a different market in which 8pack is just another techie (with an un-stereotypical physique)

Either way, why not pay a standard guy at OcUK on a cheaper salary to finish off the builds by cable tidying then?

He could be nicknamed 'the belly' :D

Confused stu. I did that to but it was still too short.

Shadowscotland, are you calling me city boy? Interesting!

.

yeah I can see and agree with that. A valid point I had not considered.

I wasn't calling you a city boy.
I was saying 8pack isn't a city boy

I was just pointing out an 8pack system should be, well 8pack-ish
Big, muscular and tuned to the max, but also a little maverick

shadowscotland, oh I see. After reading the thread as it has grown it seems to me, that maybe I am missing the point of the system. The size and massive power etc, is "him". (is that even English?). Although great, I guess him marketing Prodigy ITX cased system doesn't fit right.

I few people I know have many millions in the bank. Some of the stuff they buy is questionable. For example a really good friend of mine bought their daughter the top of the range iMac 27" system. (Sorry to swear). She is four years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I said to her WTF!! But then when you step back and look at the situation with a different perspective, the £3000 was literally pocket change to them. That is difficult to comprehend, but that is how it works.

An 8-Pack system is probably no more than 10 - 12 percent faster than the same gear in a rig built by one of us. I could NEVER extract the extra as I don't have the test samples, the time or if truthful the knowledge he does. But I would like to think, even if rich, that I would not pay £6000 more for 15%. Forget the epic service and personal contact details. I would wager with the care and attention that goes into the testing of each system, that the need for him to attend failures are few and far between.

Are his £9500 systems really worth the cash, I think not. However if he comes round and smashes my face in, then maybe yes!

like u say its all relative, if people can afford nice things why not!
and hes a nice man im sure he wont beat you up :)

i think his builds look amazing, they have some style, if he starts making one in a smaller case i might end up buying :p
