Just got a new motherboard (AsRock H61M-GS), the CPU power socket takes 8 pins, my PSU only has 4. Am I right in thinking I need one of these to connect it? I'm going to need to buy a 4pin extension anyway (Bottom mounted PSU in my new case), so even if its not needed, will it work as a simple extension?

It will work with the 4 pin, the 8 is for power stability while overclocking. The 4 will only fit in one side, so just bung it in.

Thanks for the info. As I say, the existing one isn't quite long enough, so I've ordered one anyway :)

Honestly don't know what PSU it is, its a basic cheap one, as this is just a "thrown together with old parts" PC.
