80 Degrees C

Don't really know what the usual operating temperature is for a P4 as i am an AMD man, but is 80 degrees c a normal?

My mate said the PC kept cutting out, so i imediately thought of that. Temperature has come from the BIOS.

It's probably within tolerances, but I don't think its "normal".

Especially as it's in the BIOS doing nothing.

It has the standard HS&F plus 2 case fans, one blowing air out the other sucking air in and pushing it around the case. No thermal compound is on the CPU.

Also, it is running with the case off.....

no thermal compound on the cpu? slight problem then get your mate told apply something instead of nothing.

The BIOS "PC Health" isn't necessarily a good test of idle temperature, as there is no ACPI or anything running then.

no that's right, but since idle temps are completely useless anyway - ie what difference does it make if its 70c lower at idle than in the bios, it's still 10c - it doesnt make much of a difference
