Hey all, second post on this forum as my last one was extremely useful in my end decision.

Basic info my friend has asked me to build a computer for him with price of £800

Id like your opinions on the components:

CPU : AMD Bulldozer FX-6 Six Core 6200 Black Edition 3.80Ghz (Socket AM3+)
£102
MB : Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 AMD 990FX (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard [GA-990FXA-UD3]
£100
RAM :Corsair Vengeance RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz
£50
HDD : Western Digital Caviar Red 2TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache
£90
GFX : COMPLETELY UNSURE torn between Nvidia and AMD
PSU :Corsair Builder Series CW 750w Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
£70
Case: Thermaltake Level 10 GTS Gaming Case
£90

+ got him keyboard mouse and optical drive leaving around £220 for the GFX.

My main aim is to be building a strong base which he can consistently add too.

About the graphics card im wondering whether he should wait til amd's new series and Nvidia's new series comes out then get the older version i got my 480 GTX this way for around £250... any ideas when that is, i think its around march/may.

thank you for your time.
Merry xmas to all!

that was a fast response.... no i went for AMD cause of his budget and the fact I myself have went from AMD to intel and i have to say i'm not impressed.

What kit did you get?!

I'm AMD and love it but see the benefits of Intel for sure!

What are the HDD's you've got running?

I forgot mine were running at 5400 which created a massive bottlenecK & performance issue.

Does he need KB, Mouse & OS?

I got a spare OS for him, he does need a KB and Mouse though.
Whats the ATI cards like I've heard lots of issues with drivers and games....

Seriously, no k&m, someone`s not been reading. :(
I would sooner have the 7950 and get an ssd at a later date.:D
Apart from that, not a bad build.

I read post #12 fella ;)

I tried to do a rounded spec. Kept the 2TB storage capacity he spec'd added the SSD for very fast OS boot times and also reduces load times for the games installed to it........yes one could be added later and that money put into the GPU. I too would look to use the windforce 7950 over the cheaper 7950s. I used the z77-D3H as it has a dual BIOS and 3 year uk warranty.

Lots of ways to skin a cat, I could do a mini-itx spec if he wanted
