£800 Gaming PC

Hello

I am new to these forums & am currently in the process of looking for a new system, mainly to be used for gaming, but also other general tasks as Internet surfing & home office work.

I have a budget of around £850-£900 in total. This is to include all peripherals such as monitor, keyboard, mouse & some speakers. I can buy the whole system in 1 or get a base unit & then buy the peripherals elsewhere.

I also need a Blu-ray drive to be able to watch movies etc on my PC.

I have some ideas on specifications, such as whether to go down the Intel or AMD processor route (I-5 or X4 965), 4gb of RAM, preferably 1TB HDD as I have loads of photos & MP3s, ideally a 24" Full HD monitor.

I've looked at a few places but am bewildered by the choices. So any advice from anyone would be much appreciated.

A bit over budget, tried getting the parts you wanted, changed the CPU to a 955. Maybe some one else can offer you some better parts

Prefer cat's system, mrfun has a a terribad mouse and left out the speakers unless i'm going blind.

Yeah noticed i missed the the speakers out which im sure the OP can find a suitable pair from somewhere.

As for the mouse i was running out of budget room & had to go really cheap for it. If the OP could increase budget a tiny bit more they could get a better mouse or maybe do with the cheap mouse for a few months until they can afford something better

Thanks for the replies so far. I believe I can stretch to £900 as an absolute maximum, so could improve some of the peripherals.

The systems look good & will have a further look once any more replies are made given my slightly increased budget.

Is there no hope for an I-5 750 at this price? Or is the AMD processor just as good performance wise for what I want the PC to do.

Do you need a copy of an OS or not?? Both the builds are hitting the £900 limit already.

A Core i5 750 based maybe possible if you skimp on the other core components of the system and use poorer peripherals.

As the cat said you would need to skimp on some parts to get it under the £900 mark. Iv had a go of change some of the spec's from my 1st build. An as you will be using it for gaming the rig will run perfect.

Feel free to change the mouse & keyboard if you want to.

change the samsung dvd rewriter for the ocuk blu-ray player and its just over budget at £917, you can take the sound card and change speakers to 2.0 or something to get the money back.

I dont think the OP would really need a sound card, and maybe get a slightly cheaper speakerks to keep it within the budget, rest looks great. +1 to danewesley spec.

like i said, change the dvd drive for the ocuk blu ray, get 2.1 speakers and no sound card. then if theres spare cash get a 600W psu or better i guess for future upgrade to crossfire 5770's?

Would advise against that case, it comes with no fans! Every fan slot on it is optional! I would suggest for another 8 quid the Antec 200 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-125-AN&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=. It's got some good reviews and has enough cooling to keep you happy

OP, have you considered i3 as they perform very well in games and would allow you to look at i5 down the line when funds allow.

They may be hex core but they still use AMD's same cpu technology which is getting pretty long in the tooth (and was neck in neck with Intel's Q6xxxx series last time I looked), so unless the program is designed to make full use of the cores there is no real benefit over i5...

If I were the OP I'd take a look at some Intel options, just to get a broader feel of options then the AMD only biased ones so far...
