£800 Gaming PC

Socket 1156 is going to be replaced by socket 1155 in Q1 2011 AFAIK whereas from the latest AMD roadmaps I have seen Bulldozer is on socket AM3.

The fact is ATM the Core i5 750 is £44 more on OcUK ATM than a Phenom II X4 955BE. A socket 1156 motherboard which can do symmetrical Crossfire is over £120. With an AM3 motherboard like the Asus M4A79XTD Evo which costs £90 the OP could add another HD5770 1GB at a later date to get more performance. A pair of HD5770 1GB cards can challenge even an HD5870 1GB.

You could save some money going for the following monitor instead:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-030-BQ&groupid=17&catid=510&subcat=

If you don't need Crossfire get this motherboard:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-242-GI&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1481

The motherboard has a split 8+2 phase VRM,SATA 3.0 and USB 3.0 too!

If you are not overclocking get the following motherboard:

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-358-AS&groupid=701&catid=5&subcat=1481

If you are not overclocking get this RAM:

I would also look at this case too:

Is there nothing that can be gotten for me via an Intel processor? Also what is the difference (if any) in the performance of say the i-5 750 & AMD Phenom II X4 Quadcore 955 processors. I'm getting a little confused with all the info I'm getting!!

screen is only 22 inch but is full HD.

I have now got another system for people to look at, it's a base unit only this time, as I have pretty much decided on my monitor, keyboard, mouse & speakers. My remaining budget is around £720 max inc VAT. As I have said previously, the PC is used for gaming mainly. I can maybe cut a little budget by having a DVD rewriter instead of a Blu-ray reader/DVD rewriter.

As well as AMD based PCs, I have been looking at an Intel i-5 750 based PC with similar components to the AMD PC (4gb RAM, ATI Radeon HD5770 graphics card, 1TB Samsung F3 hard drive, 600W PSU, possible overclocking).

However I have a question on Intel motherboards, what is the difference between P55 & H55 motherboards (for the purposes of using it for an Intel i-5 750 PC). Is there any change in performance, as I can't see much difference in price.
