I'm thinking of getting an SSD as I will be doing a clean install soon. Reading around on the forums, it seems the Samsung 830s are the way to go, so here are a couple of questions!

Does this include a bracket so it fits in a standard 3.5" HDD bay? If not, what is actually included in the 'premium installation tools' in the description?

What is the difference betwee the Desktop and Notebook versions?

How come the notebook ones are much cheaper?

Thanks!

Yes it includes a 2.5" to 3.5" bracket and a power cable. There is no difference in the drives. If you've no spare Sata power connectors on your PSU then order one when getting the Notebook version.

I'm using the Apple/Notebook version. It comes with Sata to USB compared to the more expensive (bracket and cable lol) Samsung 830 which has the power cable and bracket as stated above. Very good drive by the way :).

If you're going to buy one then get the notebook version.

It's £44 cheaper for the same drive.

You can spend a couple of quid on a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter, tuck the drive away somewhere safe or fix it somewhere with velcro or similar.

FYI Samsung have a £20 cashback promotion on the 256GB with purchases from 15 August to 30 September.

No guarantees what the starting price of the drive will be then though.

Thanks for the info about the cashback! So there is no performance difference between the two? I have a sata power cable on my psu and a sata data cable so it will work fine? The bracket will make the 2.5 notebook drive fit in the 3.5 desktop bay?

Yes to all of yr questions.
Install Samsung Magician software & use it to overprovision the drive after installing Windows. Sets aside 7-10% if drive to allow for TRIM & any bad mem cells in future [helps prevent data loss & extends life of drive]. Also has an optimise feature to keep ssd in tip-top condition.
