8320 to i7 2600k... Would you do it?

So I had my 8320 at 4.8GHz but bent my h80 mounting bracket and am now back at 4GHz.

I was going to buy a NH-D15 for about 70 quid when I spotted a few i7 2600k + mobos on a local buy and sell.

If I buy the i7 plus mobo for about £180 and sell my 8320 + crosshair v formula z it may end up costing the same, and I can use my h80 with the i7.

I know skylake and x99 are quite a bit faster than my current build but I dont think they are worth the cost of an upgrade.

If it comes out at around the same price then I would jump on it depending on what the mobo is that comes with the 2600k. £180 seem's a bit too much though. Going by the prices they sell for in our MM £130-150 seems more like it depending on the motherboard.

Thanks for the advice. There are two adds with these mobos:

1, Asus maximus VI Gene

2, Asus p8p67 pro rev b3

Which one would you go for? I think the first one is a micro-atx board so no hope of crossfire in future. But is the second mobo a really old chipset?

Edit: or even what offer I should make for them? What I mean is are they half decent boards?

Are you sure it's the Maximus VI? That's socket 1150, not 1155 used by 2600k.

It's way too much money for it to come with a P67 motherboard though. I wouldn't pay more than £130 for the 2600k with that board. If it was a Z77 Maximus V Gene then maybe £140-150 but not £180.

It's a "IV GENE Z". I made him an offer of £130 for both but he seemed offended by that:D

I will offer the same for the other i7 + mobo and see how this fella takes it :p

Ive been looking at doing the same myself there's a 2600k chip on my local buy and sell website for £110 but without a board.
which I was thinking was a bit steep for a cpu on its own.
I was going to post if it was worth it but looking at the response here Ill take that as a no.

I might look at a what a decent board will set me back though

I probably would not bother unless its one of the new Intel CPUs which has PCI-E 3.0 like an IB or Haswell Core i7.

What graphics card do you have OP and what games are you playing??

Will be a big difference over the slow ass AMD chip definately and the 2600k will overclock well. Still have a 2600k in my old machine at 4.8hz so chances are you will hit 4.5 - 4.6 minimum.

I have an r9-290 tri-x, usually play Rust, CsGo and GTA-V at the minute. I just thought it seemed ok if it wasn't that expensive and I would maybe give Rome-2 another go if I thought the i7 would make a difference.

I can run my card at 1150 MHz core, 1500 MHz mem... But what's the point if my 8320 (at 4.8) can't even feed it?lol
