Is the Basic model really that much worse?

Please pardon my ignorance, I'm genuinely intrigued by this. There is no doubt the Pro model is faster, but in a real world environment, how many seconds difference are we talking? 1-2 seconds quick for system boot? A second faster when loading a level?

I could understand going for the Pro if there's a noticable increase in speed, say 5+ seconds off your boot time or a game loading, but for the sake of a second or so... I don't know.

The difference between them is not just down to speed. They use different NAND and the Pro NAND will last much longer. If the prices are close, I would go for the Pro but unless benchmarks mean a lot to you or you intend on keeping the drive for 10 years, the basic EVO is fine.

Don't buy EVO until the issue is fixed. If you need the drive now, buy Pro or a different brand.

I have the 256gb evo and had this`issue`
Must say that i noticed no drop in performance in use only on benchmarking the drive
I am following the thread posted above too
Just wanted to forewarn the op about this,a secure erase `looks`to have sorted this ....for now at least
If he does get the evo he should secure erase before loading on an OS,saves hassle later on i believe
