Hi so I got given a Corsair tx850w 80 plus PSU from me cousin as he brought a new one and just wondering if this is going to be too much for my build. I've done a eXtreme Power Supply Calculator and its came out as 494w for a regular desktop and 511w for a high end desktop.

Here is what I have;

Macho rev.a cpu cooler
Nvidia gtx 580 3gb
Intel i7 2700k (Stock Speed)
4gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 Ram x2
2x 200 mm led fans
2x 120 mm fans
Blu-ray rw drive
Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 motherboard
2TB 7200rpm hdd
120gb ssd
Front bay card reader

I should also mention if you suggest a new PSU then which would you recommend getting, plus I want one that energy saving and quiet.

Thanks

Pretty nice gift, id keep it tbh. Handy to have the extra power available should you go multi gpu at some point, and overclock your components. The system will only draw what it requires. My spec in sig draws 430w when gaming, using an 850w psu.

If you've been given an 850w PSU then use it.

Yes, it's probably overkill for that system but so what? It's free. Any energy saving a new one will offer is immediately offset by the fact that, unlike the other one, it isn't free.
