The review says, and I quote: "Then there's the question of a test platform. Naturally we wanted to use the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor but that limited us to an Intel chipset and we're forever hearing from Nvidia that Intel can't do PCI Express to save its life. Turning to the reviewer's guide once again we are told to "please use an nForce 680i motherboard" - an unreleased product as yet - so it's a shame that the hardware isn't available. "

Could someone explain to me what they mean by this (Intel can't do PCI Express/pls use an nForce 680i motherboard)?

Cheers

This makes me lean even more toward simply buying an X1900CE TBH.

Rgr that Ulf, but the tests only show similar performances to the G80 using 2x X1950XTX's, and just having a quick look at OCUK, you are looking at spending at the very least £600 for x2 ATI that setup (also will not have DX10 support and all the extra bits and pieces).

No mention of the actual picture quality though on the test.

Will defo wait for the prices to become more main stream, more reviews, driver updates before I even consider buying one...But one has to admit for a single card, the performance looks very impressive so far.

Not really, as I already have one X1900XT and can get motherboards for cheap enough (especially if I sell mine to help make up the difference, then go for a DS4 or P5B/W.) With the 8800GTX and 8800GTS coming out today there will no doubt be a flood of cheap X1900 Crossfire Editions on the MM, so I'm probably looking at £250 max. ;)

Just makes sense to me really. If you don't already have a 7900/X1900 then G80 is a winner, but if you do then you might as well just SLI/Crossfire until more games make use of DirectX 10 (by which time the refreshes of G80/R600 will be out and about, and probably cheap too.)

I am still on a X800XT PE Agp/mobo based system =)...But I see your logic.

Good luck with your system, should be a killer.

If you upgrade to an 8800GTX from that, you're going to need a new pair of pants.

Lol Ulf

No worries m8, got that one covered; will be wearing a diaper
:D

Not including the GX2, is this the biggest jump in performance between generations? Can't remember the Geforce 6 or 7 being this big, possibly the Radeon 9700 pro.

HI there

Also what that review does not show is the overclocking ability. These cards are absolute monters. They overclock very well with ease. :)

That's great news Gibbo. Is the image quality much improved on these cards when compared to there predecessors and competitor (ATI always seemed to have a better IQ than Nvidea ) ?

GF6800/X800 was the biggest jump in recent years, much bigger percentage wise than now.

Young whipper snappers :p

Its certainly impressive with a single card on par with a 1950XTXCF setup. I'd say in the GTX at least Nvidia seem to have got it right although I'll wait for the proper game benchies before getting too excited.

Lets face it, it never was going to deliever the performance demanded by people...Too high an expectation built up by all the peeps saying it was gonna be good to get the people who were saying it was going to be rubbis...

I'm a little dissapointed, but i shouldn't be the jump in performance is the biggest in YEARS.

I don't know what Noxis is saying about the 6800 series, this is a far bigger jump. I'm comparing single cards here....depends on the price though....

Just reminds us that we do live in the real world and no matter all the superdooper new tech....its just pumping out more frames....dunno really maybe i was expecting to be able to do the dishes too....

Heck no is this a bigger jump, the GX2 is almost on par with the 8800GTX in some tests. While we went from the GF5 FX series to the 6800 Ultra, THAT was a massive jump with literally double the performance of previous gen cards.

No denying that the G80 is a excellent card but its by no means the performance jump that the GF5 -> GF6 was.

Its delivered it for me. I was looking for top of the line CF/SLI in one card and it seems to do that. Expecting more is just expecting too much.

I still quite like my 9800pro, it works quite nicely at 1024x768 at least. I will be upgrading of course, but not until I can afford or really need a whole new system, conroe and everything... Which will be pretty soon im sure!
