Er, feel a bit stoopid asking this but here goes....

Due to NTune being a little eccentric can someone clear up some questions for me?

The old nVidia control panel used to have per application settings for grpahic quality including AA settings. Where has this gone now? I can't seem to find it anywhere! It used to be called 'performance and quality settings' under the old CP.

Has it just gone or was may install messed up somehow? Where should it be if other people have it still?

The other thing I wanted to ask was that the two sliders for overclocking the card don't seem to do anyhting even if I try to enable them. I downloaded ATI Tool because it seems that you can overclock using it, but it doesn't detect my card.

Anyone care to help? :)

With regards to the quality settings, when you start the CP the first option should be "3D Settings". Click that, and it should show two headings. One called "Appearance" the other "Performance" (nTune basically).
Under the Appearance list there is an option called, "Manage 3D Settings". Click that link and voila! All the settings!

Ah, which CP are you starting and from where? When I go Desktop -> Properties -> Advanced -> 8800GTS it says 'All of the functions of this CP have been moved to nTune. Press below to launch it' (or words to that effect).

I press it and it launches nTune.....still no 3D settings.

Anyone know a way to get the old style control panel back?

It is an option on display properties-> Advanced isn't it? I think it will be going in a later driver release, which is a shame as the new method isn't the most user-friendly.

Sorry should have said mate. Right click the desktop, and hopefully you should see an option which says "Nvidia Control Panel". ;) Go from there with my instructions above.

But like "melbourne720" says, if you right click on the desktop, properties, then settings, then advanced then select the GeForce xxxxx tab it should say under there which CP to use.

Ok, to get back the old style control panel with temperature monitoring and overclocking for 8800 owners....

Install 97.02 drivers....

change these reg values...

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak]
"Coolbits"=dword:00000003
"NvCplDisableRefreshRatePage"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies]
"ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001
"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword:00000003

..et voila!! All working again.

oh ho ho thats what im talking about! Any clever person out there able to make that into a reg file so we lamers can just click click? (I format freqently these days) :)

Oh dear, it dissapeared after a reboot. Anyone else have this problem? Dont really want to have to edit the registry to get it back everytime I reboot.

Thanks very much mate, and for those who want it, a linky.

Edit: Doesnt work for me, says "You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor". Any idea?

That .reg file wasn't done correctly. Copy and paste the following text into a new notepad document...

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NVTweak]
"Coolbits"=dword:00000003
"NvCplDisableRefreshRatePage"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\NvCplApi\Policies]
"ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001
"TaskbarUIPolicy"=dword:00000003

Save it as whatever.reg Now u can double click it to add the entries to your registry.

so am i right in thinking that reg hack will permantly give me back the classic control panel?

hate this new control panel, cant even find anti aliasing settings :(

Yes it does, mine reverted back after a reboot only because I selected the option "show link on desktop menu" from within the new control panel which changes the reg entry ""ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000001" to ""ContextUIPolicy"=dword:00000002" and as such disables the old control panel.
