8800 GT IN PCI-E 8x

Hi i have this mobo:

ECS KN1 LITE sli


and i currently using a 7900gt buti want to upgrade to a 8800gt. Now my mobo has 2x 8x pci-e slots and only runs at 8x not 16x (they are the same size slots tho).

Will an 8800gt work in my 8x slot? and will the performance be ok?

x8 can be saturated with 8800, should only loose a few fps though.

Yes, it should function. The GT is PCIe 2.0, but is backwards compatible.

That depends on the existing components. The psu wattage is pretty much meaningless, the limiting factor is its ability to supply 12v current. List the full specification and the psu details.

Then it has 22A at 12v, the GT will use 9.5A at stock. What about the rest the PC?

The cpu takes the most at stock around 7.5A/90W iirc. You should have enough for stock speeds.

To be accurate the default and overclock Vcore voltage would help. I can already say that at 2.6GHz the current draw with a GT would be borderline.

This one has the pair of slots hardwired to 8x so even if you only use a single card it will still only run at 8x.

OP. You need to check what version your PCI-e slots are on this board. As it's a quite old board it may have Version 1.0 in which case the 8800GT will not work.

OP. You need to check what version your PCI-e slots are on this board. As it's a quite old board it may have Version 1.0 in which case the 8800GT will not work.

There's plenty of people reporting that they work on older PCIe 1.0a boards, NF4 for instance. I'm sure there are individual board issues, but generally PCIe 2.0 is allegedly fully backwards compatible with 1.0a & 1.1
