8800 GT or GTS ?

For 1440x900 the GT will fly in all of those games, my GT was fantastic at 1680x1050.

As above though, if you're going 24" see if you can stretch to a GTX.

definatly 24" calls for a GTX if its possible, grab a second hand one for aroun £200
the sheer amount of memory and the bandwidth it runs at gives the GTX a distinct edge at those resolutions
My GT copes well at 1680x1050 but i wouldnt want to try it at 1900+

Hrm, a spread of views on this. Anyone else opinion.

NB: will keep track of the suggestions in original post :D
Change my vote to GTX, I didn't see the 24" thing at first so edited my post. :D

Oddly I am thinking of selling my GTX on MM starting around £200 if you might be interested, only had it a few months and only really getting rid of it so I can play with a 3870X2 for a bit to cure boredom.

I'll probably have made up my mind by Monday.

All of them are excellent value at their current price points so if you buy any one you couldnt go wrong. The GTX gets the nod for sheer power though

3870 X2 = Stay Away. I've warned you :D

What's wrong with them? I had a feeling the reviews might be too good to be true. :(

Mainly that Minimum FPS issue and the PowerPlay issue. You'd think gaming at 1440x900 with 4xAA would be smoot as a whistle in games like DDO:Stormreach and EVE. Try doing that on High Details and you notice the drops and pauses.

When it didnt do this it was fine, hitting my lcd refresh rate limit.

I suffered min FPS issues in HL2 and COD4 as well. The drivers seriously need seriously sorting out, and I'm not prepared to wait around for 3-6 months while they do this with a real expensive card. If you really must have Crossfire I would suggest 2x 3870XT instead :(

Easily good enough for a GTX or two. :)

Thanks. CPU is at stock but looking to hit 3.2Ghz minimum with it soonish.

Sorry, I am compulsive when it comes to editing. :( :D

Me too :P

Sorry for the snip, I did read it but I like to snip to save space. :)

2x 3870 is an option actually due to the similar price. I was considering buying a single one and then adding a second later if I was not happy with the performance of a single one, and I have an Abit IP35 Pro motherboard so Crossfire should run fine on it.

Thanks for the honest review of the X2 too. I don't mean any one person but some owners tend to talk about them as if the sun shines out of them, it really throws a spanner into the whole process of research. :(

That CPU will do 3.2GHz with very little effort. Mine does 3.2GHz and it's a very poor sample, at least when it comes to overclocking. Your PSU will be able to handle that @ 3.2GHz + a GTX either way. :)

*SOLD* *Goes off to order a GTX*

Great stuff. I honestly think this CPU can do more than 3.2 but its running on an i975 based motherboard so I'm reigning in my expectations for the time being.

You won't regret buying the GTX, though I did wish you'd insist on mine to force me into getting a 3870. :D

No worries though, besides I want to give myself the weekend to mull it over.

Err, any advice or which version to get?

The OcUK OEM special, the Gainward, the Leadtek or the Point of View?

Noticed the PoV has a 3 yr warranty..
