8800 GTS and Two Monitors

I've just installed my new 8800 GTS and I can't work out how to set up dual monitors. Because my second monitor is an LCD TV it needs to have a resolution of 1024x758, whereas my primary monitor supports 1280x1024.

I want to have it stretched horizontally but everytime I try and set it the resolution reduces on my primary monitor and while the picture has stretched it's not showing the otherside on my TV.

My last card was an ATI and Catalyst allowed you to have seperate resolutions for the two screens but I can't seem to find a similar option in any of the nVidia control panels.

Can anybody help?

After a little fiddling around I've managed to get Dualview and even Ultramon is recognising the second monitor, but there's still a problem. I can't get a picture on the second monitor, even though I used to be able to with my ATI card. The maximum resolution for the second one is 1024x768 with 60Hz refresh. I've set this but the second monitor is saying that it doesn't support the display mode and so doesn't show a picture.

Does anybody have any ideas about what may be the cause of this?

NVIDIA drivers for you :)

I'll scream at you! :p

Infact, the nVidia drivers are fine. What you are looking for is under nView. This allows you to configure multiple backgrounds on multiple displays. :)

Where about will I find this? I've seen the options for having a different wallpaper on each display but there was nothing there that seemed to suggest it would fix my problem.

with two lcd panels connect you should jsut be able to do it with the display properties?

right click on desktop > properties > settings

click on the second monitor, select the res with the slider then check "Extend my windows on to the monitor then hit apply? you dont need nview to do this, but nview does have some nice extra features you might use.

the other way is to open your nvidia drivers > display > run multiple desktop wizzard. you may have to set the view to advanced or custom to see it.

Pfffft! Absolute rubbish!! I laugh derisively in your direction!! :D

I have my 8800GTS set up to run on both my 20WGX2 and my Evesham 32"LCD TV. Both are running through DVI leads and ll i did was go into NVCP-----> Display----->Change Display Configuration. I then used DualView, selected my monitor as the primary, the LCD TV as the secondary, then as miller says, set the resolutions for each display individually by right clicking on the desktop and going to properties----->settings.

Mine are running quite happily so i can watch movie files on the lcd while working on the monitor, and if i want to game on the TV (mainly pro evo) i just tell NVCP to use the TV as the primary display. Took me no more than 1/2 hour to figure it out.

If you haven't sorted it yet mate i hope this helps!

Nvidia drivers are a lot easier tho, rigth click nvidia icon in bottom right, goto nview modes from menu and set it on dualview, then on the correct lineup (shows monitors in list in all possible combinations), in just 3 clicks you extend your desktop...
Nview also offers some nice features, tbh i dont think i'd even need ultramon if nvidia drivers would have a taskbar on the 2nd srceen too, thats really the only thing nvidia drivers cant (of the essentials) do what untramon can .

I've tried it all the ways suggested and while I can turn it on, and I can even move my mouse off the primary display onto the secondary, the TV isn't actually showing a picture, just repeating the message saying the the Display Mode Isn't Supported.

It all worked find just the day before with my ATI card so I can only assume it has something to do with the 8800 GTS, rather then the TV

if you cant move the mouse off the screen its more likely to be a software problem. did you use something like driver cleaner to remove the ati drivers before installing the nvidia ones?
