Hi all, ok for xmas i will be selling my 7800 gtx and hopefully getting a 8800 gts or gtx if i can afford. My mobo has 2 pci 16 slots so thats ok, my psu is 650 watts (yes i know its a **** make but it will do). I would see a big increase in performance from 7800-8800 right? not too much of a bottleneck?.

Later in the year i will be getting conroe so 1 step at a time :)

Don't even think about running a 8800 on that. Just don't.

Fully agree, BOOM and it takes everything with it, im very surprised it hasn't yet, i wouldn't even dare turn my PC on with that thing in there, you got yourself a time-bomb there.

Mate,

DO NOT USE THAT PSU

You are spending thats much money on a gfx card...

Treat it with respect.I'll have no sympathy if your PC blows up after no reason other than stupidity.

Get this psu OCZ ModStream 450w ATX2.2 Power Supply only £45 or if you wan t spend bit more get OCZ ModStream 520w ATX2.2 Power Supply £64 i don t think they will run the GTX but they will run the GTS fine and if u get the GTX then the min psu i would say would be Seasonic S12 500W Silent ATX2.0 Power Supply

Yep, your cpu is running way too slow, will be a massive bottleneck. Mine's defo bottlenecking my card and thats at 3.18ghz, I know its a GTX but even so mate, you're gonna be wanting to run at least 2.5-2.6ghz, otherwise you'll have bits of your games that are silky smooth and then you'll noticed when it slows down more as a result.

For example, with everything at max with 8xAA 16xAF with soft shadows on in FEAR I'm avergaing well over a 100 frames per second, but I'm gettin mid 40s at times and sometimes 30s in spots with a lot going on, not graphically but a lot of objects moving and stuff, its not the graphics card just the cpu ain't pulling its weight...

I think :)

hiper would do fine, few bad reports but mines handling my 1900xt crossfire and overclocked conroe just fine *touch wood* ;)

I've been running a generic PSU for about 2 years now, 400 watts it was 25 quid, my 3, 50 quid Tagans all blew up as soon as I powered on.

Power to the crap makes.

you must be very brave, i bet the volts on the rails shoot right down as soon as you do anything intensive i wish you all the luck for the future ;)

Using a generic PSU is not big or clever when you consider the value of your PC hardware.

There is just no excuse running one.

I certainly wouldn't be bragging about.

I would be ashamed I was that really admitting I was that stupid :o

Well no actually, it was either that PSU or no PSU and I haven't spent any cash on my PC since 2 years ago as I haven't had any to spend on it.

And to be honest I'm kinda spooked to put a new PSU in after 3 Tagan's going boom.

Just because you had a problem with Tagans doesn't mean anything.

You are still risking your system by not having a quality PSU installed.

I mean an Enermax Liberty 400 w is 49 quid!

There really is no excuse.

I don't work and have no source of income at this time
It's been fine for 2 years and I will be upgrading me PSU in a few weeks when I get my new Processor and Mobo.
