8800 gts?

i have to agree, ive had this psu for nearly a year now. Havent noticed anything weird with it, but all you people on overclockers scared me so i do think i need a new one. Damn you all :P

You've Not noticed anything wrong because you've not pushed it to the places that highend components would want to take it :p

I think buying a new graphics card for me always depends on your current resolution and Monitor, If you have a 15" monitor with 1024 by 768 then an 8800 would be wasted.

So 1st get a new PSU.

2nd, Could do with knowing your current monitor size and resolution.

3rd, If you have a nice monitor that will give you some big res 8800 would be a blessing.

or

3rd, if you hav a small monitor, get a new monitor :p

4th, Go conroe.
 
This bottleneck advice is a little misleading.
The Res you run your moniter at as well as the AA/AF makes the difference.
FEAR on my A64 3700 and 7800gtx at 520/1.37 2 x AA/2xAF@1600x1200 playes no different if i run my Sandy at 2.2 or 2.6 so therefore isnt bottlenecking. If you play at a Res over 1600x1200 with plenty of AA/AF then your CPU wont bottleneck.
If you play at 1280x1024 then id say selling your 7800gtx for a 8800gtx is probably a waste.
 
this is such a bloody hard decision. Nearly as big as do i revise for gcses or do i play bf2. You'll be happy to say i played bf2 :P. I have 2 options. Waste a chunk of money on a 8800 and psu and feel very happy. Wait till march/april which is like a decade a way and get conroe etc etc. So far option 1 is winning.

You THINK you'll be happy. And you will for the first few minutes. That is until you load up a few games only to find your framerate has improved by 1 fps and everything looks EXACTLY the same as it did before.

March/April will be here in a flash. And I promise you if wait and upgrade then you will be VERY glad you waited. Let's imagine the alternative. You fork out £500+ on an 8800 and PSU now only to find it doesn't improve your gaming experience anywhere near to the level you think it will. On top of that, there are no games out there that are going to test your card to the limit anyway (Crisis, Alan Wake etc. all released early next year and some like Alan Wake are Vista only anyway) and even if they were available, you wouldn't be able to play them properly. Add to that your constant frustration and distress as you see the price of the 8800 come creeping slowly down. And then come March/April time, when the price is siginficantly cheaper, THEN all these great games come out that are designed to bring joy and delight to all the 8800 owners out there. Only poor old you can't play them. You have to spend another £500 to upgrade your system so that you can. Mate, if I was in your position then my choice would be quite clear. Think about it. ;)
 
option 2 has taken the crown. now time to chop fingers off so they cant type anthing along the lines of must have 8800 etc

** system is fine for now, dont waste ** money ! or go sli and spend about 150 quid on a secondhand card an a sli motherboard like i did !!! i get 12392 3d05 marks which is enough for any game at the moment
