Hi, my 8800 gtx has been working fine over last year and a half, but was playing counter strike source last nite and it was running fine for about 5 mins then kept lagging and crashing to desktop leaving distorted colours on my screen, i thought it was cs so i loaded another game sins of a solar empire, same thing only the second it load it jammed, i check the temp on my card it was 75C, it usually sits around 65-72 so i thought it was over heating.

I turned it off cleaned dust off the card and inside the case and turned it on it was running at 55C, loaded hl2 again and same thing, only this time it locked the system i turned of at the power turned back on, now it isnt giving me a display but the system it booting up fine, 1 beep i can hear hard disk activity, I cant put the 8800 in my other system, but i took a x850xt and put it in my pc in place of the 8800 and its working. Is my 8800 gtx dead? The fan on it is spinning away so power is going to it.

solder fissures mate happens to all 8800 gtx at some point, look up ovening your gfx card on youtube

basically take off the cooler and plastic stuff and sit the card on a baking tray. preheat oven to 200 degrees, sit card in oven for ten minutes. remove card let cool for an hour- reattach plastic stuff and fan-cooler etc. fit back into pc

will work as good as new at least for a couple of months till you get a new card. I reccomend a 5850 or 5870 radeon.
