Just a quick question guys.Go easy as its my 1st post.

Currently running a 8800gtx and want to get another so that I can use SLI,however looking around not many places have them in stock.Any ideas where you could get one from now or could I use another GFX Card with SLI ?

Also I have upgraded from 32bit XP Pro to Vista Ultimate 64bit,and am dual booting.
If I installed 8gb of RAM into my system,I know that XP can only use 4gb.So am i right in assumming that when I use XP it will only show 4gb and when I use Vista it will show the full 8gb.

Many thanks for any help.

I'd advise against SLi, it's usually got pretty mixed results; I remember my 6800 Ultras running in SLi was a bit tempermental.

Better to either upgrade a single card or stick with the GTX.

And yeah, Vista x64 will show 8 gig.

I think XP will proberly see 4gb installed, but will only use 3.0 - 3.5 gig dependant on what hardware which has inbuilt memory, ie GPU.

Intel Core2 Quad
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX
Creative SB X-Fi
500g hard drive
2g ram
EVGA NFORCE 680i SLI MB

Dual booting with XP sp3 and Vista Ultimate sp1

Maybe worth doing TBH,

Down sides, would be your 2gb of system RAM is going to be a problem with XP when you add 1536mb of video RAM. And the second card with slow some games down.

Plus sides, a decent boost for very little outlay in SLI optimised games. I suppose it all comes down to cost.

What Games do you play? not all games benefit from SLI.
Also what is the max resolution of your monitor?

The other thing you need to make sure is that your power supply can feed 2 8800gtx's.

cos 8800gtx is a hungry card, and that it has the power connectors

Would you consider SLI GTX's will be a good solution to gaming for the next 12 months or are the 280 series streets ahead?

I've just been through this whole issue :) with sli gts. somebody on here did some comparrison tests and found that the 280 would only really pull ahead with lots of AA and AF applied or when going from 1680 x 1050 to 1900 x 1200. So really is dependent on what resolution you game at. I run at 1680 x 1050 and to be honest the only games my setup doesnt really like are crysis and farcry 2 , But then who's system does like these
Have at look at the thread
