8800 + oblivion

[H]ardOCP tested with Oblivion
BFGTech GeForce 8800 GTX and GTS completely blew the fastest single-GPU champ in Oblivion out of the water. If there is any time to utter “pwned” it would be now.
Those kinds of settings make you go, “Wow!” The visual quality cannot be expressed in words, you literally have to see it in real time to understand how beautiful this game truly is when you can max out the settings with HDR and 4X AA enabled in a Widescreen resolution.

The BFGTech GeForce 8800 GTS was also a strong performer at 1920x1200, once again being able to run with the highest in-game settings possible. We did have to bring the AA level down to 2X, but at 1920x1200 with HDR enabled it still looked breathtaking.

Nice performance indeed

the game is smooth for me with my A64 X2 @ 2700 and 8800GTS

its around 50fps outside @ all details maxed (except grass is completely off)
res is 1600x900 4xAA

still get abit of stuttering but i think i might need to tweak my ini files

Thanks Dutch Guy :)

and sem turn that grass on you cheeky bugger , i want to see the average frames without the tweaking

Why is grass turned off, it adds a lot of athmospere and IQ.

From the [H]ardOCP review:
"The BFGTech GeForce 8800 GTX and GTS however render that grass like it wasn’t even there! It is that fast. We were blown away when we cranked up Oblivion to 1600x1200 with absolute maximum in-game settings and grass to maximum with no AA"

So it looks like grass does not give a big performance hit on the 8800 cards, or isn't that true?

They should do in game movies or something so we can really see what it all looks like and plays like cranked..

im sure my card can handle the grass i just don't like how it looks
ill try and find a tweak for the grass and see if i can increase the draw distance for it

those oblivion specs are truly awesome!

i may dish the game out again to play over christmas when my new quad core system is built.

Have you tried CSAA with the game?

There's a setting in the ini file under the grass heading for the distance at which the grass cuts out completely and for how long before that the grass starts to fade out. I have mine set to around 8000 and 1500 I think. You could set yours way up to 14000 and 2000 and you'll be able to see grass pretty much as far as you can see :)

I put 150 hours into oblivion on the 360 but I might have to get the PC version now that my rig will do it the Justice it deserves (old pc was using a ati 9800 and a amd xp2600)

I'M a bit gutted that for the price the BFG cards don't come with dark messiah like nearly every other card (don't get me wrong the t-shirt and stickers are a nice idea but not my thing really)

Ive just installed my 8800GTX and fired up oblivion and Ive got to say im really impressed after being dissapointed with the 7950gx2 in oblivion.

Theres a oblivion gate to the west of anvil near the coast with lots of grass and my 7950gx2 would get into the low 20's FPS if not teens @1280x1024 even with the grass turned down some. This 8800 doesn't go below 50 FPS with everything on full and even grass shadows on @ 1600x1200 :D

It justs feels so smooth everywhere in game, i always though it was bad coding but i havent had any of the weird lag tonight. I think the 7950gx2 suffered from driver lag in oblivion but ran other games really well.

I just wish i wasn't right at the end of the game :p

Are you running with AA and AF on that?

AF, cant run HDR & AA until there is hacked drivers like the Ati's. This card can do HDR & AA though unlike the previous Nvidia cards.

And its not quite the end.... theres an Oblivion expansion pack due soon.... the limits are endless.

Is it more or does it feel u guys should be getting not 50fps in Oblivion but super dooper 100fps ?! Maybe its just the reviews or the madness :p

HDR & AA definatly does work without having to chose AA in game, i just dropped my rez down to 640x480 and took 2 screenshots, 1 with 4xAA (in driver) 1 without AA.

Without AA

4x AA
