Under load a few minutes ago it measured a constant 61c
Shocky-FM said:Adjusting the fanspeed should make very little difference to your loads temp as it actually does a decent job adjusting the fanspeed automatically depending on the GPU temp. In many cases doing that will probably cause the card to run hotter since it will not longer be able to reach 90-100% if it needs to.

ugly ferret said:This is nonsense. I also upped the fan speed on my overclocked gts to 85% and it knocked around 20 degrees off my load temp. Now I get around 54 degrees idle and 72 load.
Shocky-FM said:Maybe theres a problem with your fan/bios, sounds like your cooling is not working properly. At 92C the fan should be at 100% when set to auto. If the fan is not speeding up you should probably contact techical support for whoever made your card.
I would advice the same to anyone whos cooling is not speeding up when needed, could be a defect or dodgy bios.

Lolcb said:Dam, you must have like 20 fans attached to your case. Cause that is a very good temp to idle and load at ( if you're on air cooling ).
The Asgard said:7-9'c Delta between idle and load. Something is not right there unless your watercooled.

KWJay said:Its not a dodgy bios. If i do a clean driver install and don't use riva tuner then the fan spins up and down as per usual, but as soon as i use RT to set my clocks at boot up then that seems to disablethe fan control. If you're fan is spinning up to 100% you can't have decent airflow in the case. Like i said, playing fear at 85% fan speed means the temps rarely rose over 70c even after about 4 hours of play on max settings. I'm happy running like this TBH, and i rarely game for longer than 4 hours stints due to being at work most of the time! lol!
Oh, and we are talking about a GTS here, not a GTX
Shocky-FM said:My airflow is fine thanks, but ask yourself this, how can you have 72C load at 85% and 92C load with the fan at 100%? Yes at 89C+ the fan will jump to 100%. So either theres a fault somewhere or...![]()
They use pretty much the same cooling so being based on the same architecture I doubt there would be much difference between how they behave. I also doubt the GTSs cooling is so bad that it doesn’t at least speedup to 80% when at 90C so I’m still thinking there’s a problem.. Stick it on auto and monitor it with rivatuner and find out at what temperature the fan speeds up and what speed the fan increases to.
KWJay said:Well, considering the GTX has 1/3 more stream processors than the GTS i can easily see it running hotter. My temps seem to be nicely in line with the majority of GTS users out there so i'm not at all worried.
I'm currently running NVTemplogger to monitor my temps and it seems to be fine. As i said RivaTuner doesn't want to cooperate with the fan control. I even tried setting all 3 fan controls to 100%, 2d and 3d ones, told it to apply at reboot, rebooted, and low and behold the fan didn't spin up to 100%. And besides, whats wrong with running the fan 85% all the time? when i was running with manual the noise generated by the fan when it sped up was quieter than when i set it to 85%, which says to me it doesn't even need to spin up that fast at the moment.
