Is the GTS worth the £30 higher price? I noticed it has a dual slot, so is it quieter? Case cooling isn't really a problem, the 1900XT is with a S1 and the internal temps are pretty low anyway.

Take it all 8800GTS's are the same?

512Mb GTS is about 10% quicker than a GT. Only variations between cards are the default clock speeds and possibly the cooler.

Not all 8800GTS are the same, only the newer ones with 512Mb memory are the new revised GTS with 128SPs.

The GT is quiet too when the fan is on auto 29%.

Hello badbob, it would be dependent on the resolution that you currently game at and weather you are looking at playing with a bit of AA and AF? :)

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a question about this option;

I have a 22" monitor and would like to play games at max size (1680x1050)
would the GTS be the better option and I will be playing games like COD4 etc with AA & AF. I was going to wait for the 3870X2 but I think it is going to be to dear.

What do you think???:confused:

I play COD4 at that resolution with 4x AA and 16x AF, max detail, insane body count with rock solid framerates on my 8800GT. After looking at benchmarks for weeks and trying to decide between the GT and the GTS i opted for the former on the basis that at that resolution the percentage price increase was greater than the percentage performance increase, basically the GT is better value for money.

Buy the cheapest GT going and overclock it, or if you want something with a little bit of an edge buy the GTS, there's very little difference between them (especially with the GT overclocked). Just never ever buy a pre-overclocked GT, its just not worth the price premium considering you can do it yourself in 5 mins.

I say, go for the GT, but it is a decision only you can make.

kinda in the same boat. Will probably get the Gt but still looking at the GTs. I run a E2180 at 3.0 and game on a 19" widescreen(1440x900). its low res but would like to jack up some eye candy. would the GTS really make any noticeable difference over the GT at that res?

Id go for the 8800GTS 512 (just under £200), the fan is quiet at 50% they're much cooler at 30%, than the GT, and mine overclocked easily to 800/2000/1000 (under 60 degrees at 66%, using the temperature to speed thing in rivatuner).
I imagine it also depends on how hot your case get, whether you want to take off the stock heatsink & whether you want to overclock.

I'd get a gt and use the s1 on that, a near silent 120mm 800rpm fan is enough to keep it 40c gaming load.
Flash the overclock to the bios no need to even run rivatuner

The GTS honestly is not worth the money. I paid for it, but i really regret it, had a GT before that would have been given away regardless, but i really should have gotten a new GT instead. The problem with the GTS is that while it does have a bit more raw power cause of the clocks and the shaders, the memory subsystem really isn't up to par. It simply oversaturates the bus, it's really evident if you overclock it, you'll see almost no gains by clocking the shaders or the clocks.
