Just checking out toms hardware, between 512MB 8800GT and 768MB 8800GTX, and there's hardly anything in it! Even at highest resolution.

5 fps for Dark Messiah
Less than 1 for FS-X
2 fps for Oblivion

They're not identical, but the GT holds its own until it runs out of video memory.

If you're considering which to buy then let us know what games you play and at what resolution, and if you prefer to use high levels of AA/AF, and you can find out which would be best for you.

I usually like 4XAA, with 16XAF. Native is 1920x1080, but if games are a bit slow I'll use 1680x1050.

Empire Earth III seems a bit sluggish on my 1900XTX. Plus Crysis of course, and Supreme Commander FA. Tomb Raider Legends slows down on the outdoor levels/end of game boss. Everything else is fine.

The GT is a class act.

And for the money cannot be beaten.

If you Play above 1680x1050 the GTX will start to pull ahead.

Especially, like ulf says ,when AA and AF is used.

GTX for you then or X2

Do you have benchmarks of latest games 1680x1050 v 1920x1200, where it's showing difference between GT/GT/GTX?

Pretty amazed my 1900XTX still is fluid, Race 07, Flat Out 2 where framerate drops is instantly noticeable. Native 1920x1200, 4XAA, 16XAF, everything maxed out. Apparently GT is x2 the performance of the ATI too.

Ive got a gt in a system im building for my cousin, have to say im suprised at how well it runs games like crysis. I remember all the reviews saying it was close to a gtx and raised an eyebrow, now ive got one to play around with its probably the best bang for buck card on the market in many years.

How does it compare against your X2 gerard? Also ATI v Nvidia AA/AF/ overall PQ in Half Life 2 engine?

x2 would be faster, image quality is debatable as ati's seems to be brighter than nvidia's. aa\af is hard to distinguish any differences really.

Sorry x2 versus GTX.
So you think ATI have higher contrast (HDR?) Flat Out 2 sometimes hurts my eyes on the low sunset course. I don't like Colin Mcae Dirt HDR, I think HDR looks OTT, got HDR on normally unreflective surfaces.

I think ati just use a brighter default palette. Games like team fortress 2 going from an nvidia card to an ati card its very noticable.

It's not really a case of framerate. The GT will stutter like hell as it buffers the frame.

I know from experience that Crysis with AA, even at 1680x1050, can stutter like Porky Pig on a GT.
