Hello

Been having problems with an 8800gt.

Every time i play a video or a game, it crashes and the whole screen goes red whilst the sound goes into a loop.

The idle temperature is around 75c and under load is around 100c so im hoping that its a temperature issue.

Any thoughts?

Check it for a build up of dust.

I'd also be checking the thermal paste, thermal paste tends to dry up after years of use.

Take off the cooler and make sure the heatsink is clear of dust. clean off the old Paste and add new thermal paste (IC Diamond is great). Reasemble and temps should be better.

Whats the best way to remove thermal paste? Is it worth getting some cleaner or just wiping it with a cloth?

Im hoping its just a temperature issue. It only artifacts and crashes after about 30 seconds whilst playing videos and games but other then that its fine with general use

My 8800GT was hitting 100 under load and didn't crash. Idled at about 70.
