I just purchased a BFG 8800gts 512 (By the way the bracket was bent, as per a couple of posts i have seen lately - the box is wholly inadequate - couldn't wait for a replacement so bent it back)

My 3dmark06 score has gone from 5100ish to around 8700ish - I was expecting more. this is at 1400X900

my system is

C2D 6300
2 gig geil 6400 stuff
Gigabyte 965 Ds3
XP Home edition
using the latest non beta drivers
and other odds and sods

Any ideas whether I am getting the right score?

many thanks

updated chipset drivers and tightened memory timings - CPU still at stock - 3dmark 8790 - not quite what i was expecting.

Any ideas greatly appreciated - I may OC the CPU to see what effect it has....

OK, here are my 3dmark06 test results, unfortunately i cannot run at the default resolution due to the native res of my 19" widescreen monitor - so i have had to run @ 1152x864, which, I believe, should be slightly less taxing than the default.....

drum roles please......and the results are:::

Main test results

3DMark Score 8755 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 3808
SM 3.0 Score 4864

Thanks all - i've finished with the benchmarking, now I'll get on with some gaming - if I notice a prob i'll just OC the CPU or maybe upgrade to a 6600 quad!!! There is always something else to covet....

All,

OK, did the right thing and upgraded my e6300 to a Q6600 Go thingy - score has gone from circa 8700 to 12700 (albeit @ 1400 X 900).

I didn't expect that much of a hike, thanks to all for advise.
