8800GTS 70C??

70 degrees for an 8800GTS at idle is not normal unless cooling is extreamly bad, like no fans and super clogged with dust...

But all the same 70c is nothing to worry about. , the cards are more than designed to handle above and beyond this temperature.

if thats the case guess its perfectly safe to limit my 2900 to 25% fan speed and have temps in some games at 94 degrees...

There is a massive difference between 70c and 94c :). But saying that the 2900s will run up to 110 before they shut down afaik.

My GTX Idles at 68-70 and loads up around 80-82. Id be perfectly happy it going up to 85c. You'll find with the GTX/GTS load temperatures normally only go up by 10c if that.

at idle my 8800gts 640 is at 51c, after load goes to about 60c, when, i clock it to 630/1000 it hits the low 70's i think the fact that i have a 92mm side case fan helps, cause the air coming in from it goes directly onto the graphics card. and a bonus the 88000gts is very quiet

Okay..

I changed the settings to high, 1024 X 768, 4 AA , v sync off etc

like around 60 fps in the timedemo... im sure my 6800 NU beat that =|

That is rather low. Are you absolutely certain that you've got vsync off? Do you have any override settings in the nvidia control panel?

At 1024x768, high settings, and 4xAA my GTS320 gets 117.8 at timedemo1. Even at ultra, I get 108.1. That's using the 163.67 drivers.

well most people have there gts's idling in the 50's, so I think they should not be idling in the 70's when thats load temp.

I would not be happy if I had a GTX that idled at 70, some peoples idle in the 50's, even 40's.

They will only idle that low if on water or a very good after market cooler and mega case cooling, all gtx's im aware of idle around 70C, mine certainly did before it went into the loop and its currently at 42C:D

On stock air?, my ass they do. you need to get your facts right or at least back them up  . All GTX on stock air will idle at around 70 in normal circumstances. If you had the side of the case and some big ass fan pointing at it then you may see an idle temp of around 60c but the fact of the matter is the GTX's Idle high, always have done. Its not really the idle temperature you need to worry about anyway its the load. As said mine goes up to around 80c which is perfectly acceptable. You worry way to much Will.

really? seems too hot heh.. Running at stock temps too.

I put a small house fan thingy directed at it.. gone down to 470 C now... I should really really get a new case.

You want more than a small house fan if its idling at 470, you want to get the **** in a ******* wind tunnel.

:D

My GTS idles around 54-56. :)

Lol :D

Well its idling around 60 C ish atm - but I have no case fans which I guess is a major problem - well I have 1 small one but its crappy and noisy.

Im guessing I couldnt overclock it to 550/575 with out a good case, right? Im looking at the Antec 900 atm.. looks very nice ;)

Depending on room temp my GTX idles at about 60, thats in my Antec 900 with a 120 on the side. This is at 60% fan, When gaming i turn it to 648/2000 and 100% fan it hits 70-75c depending on room temp. :)

In a very hot room tonight cos the heaters are on :p my 2900pro is idling around 60 and running at XT speeds on load sits at a nice 83degrees! :) Seems fine at the temps and I think XT speeds are now go :D

People worry about temps far too much.

In 10 years of using 3d accelerator cards I've never had one fail and I've always had really messy cases with rubbish airflow, loads of disks, cables blocking things up etc.

Obviously if wanting to overclock then having lower temps can help but 70C is nothing to worry about normally. High end passively cooled cards used to go way over that.

My 8800gts used to idle around 70 and hit 90+ under heavy load over the summer. Now its under water I haven't seen it over 55 even when at 680 on the core.

Just to let everyone know I was reading the wrong temperature readout. I was reading the PWM temperature readout :p. My GTX is idling at 63c reading the correct temp now :D
