Is it worth me bothering to swap my 8800GTS 320 for a pair of HD2900XT in crossfire?? I just got DiRT and it plays crap at full tilt. I only like fuill tilt else what's the point.

Thoughts anyone.

The entire system consists of the following.

P182
GA-P35-DQ6
Q6600 B3
XMS2 6400 C4 4 x 1Gb
Enermax Infiniti 720w
BFG 8800GTS 320Mb OC
A single HD501J Sata 2 HDD
Samsung 2030 Sata DVD Drives x 2
iMon Soundgraph VFD
Scythe FDD with card reader
USB speakers
Logitech S510 keyboard (USB RF)
Logitech MX Revolution Mouse (USB Bluetooth)

I always game at 1680 x 1050. That's the whole point of the monitor etc. I'm new gaming on the PC having come over from consoles, so I don't own any games that don't support 1680 x 1050.

Sounds like the 320mb memory must be becoming a problem, when I had an 8800GTS 640 at 1280x1024 I played at ultra except shadows at high, 16xAA/AF and hardly ever went below 23fps, sometimes up to 40fps.

Would play properly at 1680x1050 aswell I rekon, just 320mb memory aint helping.

a 2900 cf setup would definitely help....but I'd just get a single GTX...or if you were going to do a dual GPU solution I'd wait and do 8800GT SLI

My mobo doesn't support SLi as it a P35 chipset. Having just spent the £1300 to build my rig I cannot afford to change the GFX to an Ultra which is what I wishj I had done in the first place. I have read that ATi is not a patch on Nvidia, do any of you reading this agree with that? Oh also my 8800 GTS 320 only show 256Mb in properties, is that normal?

dont buy an ultra...complete waste of money!
a single GTX and you will be laughing.
avoid 2900XT at all costs...if you must buy ati then the 2900 Pro is a v good option as it overclockes to XT speeds and beyond. an XT is sheeps clothing ;)

best bet is wait for the new 8800 GT's and buy a 512mb version. i have a 512mb 2900 pro and it cuts through most games at 1680x1050...although i would rather an 8800gt, particularly if it is released at a good price because 2900 dx10 performance sucks afaik.

you will get a good price for your gts so sell it and buy a GT for cheap

Yeah just do what most of 8800 GTS 320Mb owners are doing - sell your card on mm or on the bay and buy a 8800GT 512Mb on Monday.

In theory it should be a costless swap or you even might make money depending on which GTS card you have. Mines up to £155.10 on the bay atm so a 8800GT for £140 on Monday will leave me slightly up even with fees and postage :D

Just re-read your post. Is somebody actaully going to swap a pair of 2900xt for your 8800GTS 320Mb and no money?

If so bite his hand off and get them swapped before he comes to his senses :D

Well, that's not strictly true. You have to factor in the cost of the 8800GTS in the first place do you not?

What you're doing is jumping between ships really, although I quite understand the desire to do so if the 8800GT really is as good as the one review we've all seen says...

And lets hope they really are £140 incl VAT and Delivery. I expect they'll be a bit more to be honest, what with the pent up demand being displayed on this forum and others!!

I'd swap my GTX for 2x XT's if it didn't cost me anything. If you are simply thinking of buying rather than a swap deal just buy a single GTX.

or he could wait for the new GTS around the 19th November, which is suppoosedly around the GTX we have nows performance, or wait for the newer, faster GTX.

All very true if it wasn't for the fact I bought my 8800 GTS 320Mb for £147 plus £15 postage when it was two weeks old :D

And if not for that, I may have thought twice about swapping but even if it is only as fast as my 8800 GTS, the extra memory will come in handy me thinks ;)

Yeah, the memory thing is the main advantage me thinks. I'll wait and see until a few folks have got them on here I think before deciding whether to change. I want to see some decent reviews and see what price they end up at. An 8800GTS will fetch good money on the bay for some time yet I think.
