8800GTX + DVI-HDMI Cable Issues

Hi Guys,

Would appreciate your input on the following:

Got an EVGA 8800GTX from OCUK the other day. Major issue I am having is that if I use a DVI to HDMI cable then the picture does not look right at all. Its murky/fuzzy no matter what adjustment I make to my HDTV (Samsung 40" R87 only 2 weeks old).

Yet when I used my ATI X1950Pro with the exact same cable/hdtv the picture is perfect and razor sharp with no adjustment required.

Have tried all 3 HDMI inputs on the TV and adjusting anything/everything on the tv yet it makes no difference. HDMI input#2 has 1:1 pixel mapping yet regardless of which input I use the picture looks bad.

This means I am stuck with VGA mode only which does look very good indeed but I wanted HDMI to get the digital scaling options. Tried playing around with the Nvidia drivers but makes no difference.

Any ideas or opinions for me on what to do as the gfx card is perfect via DVI to DVI on my Dell 2405 WS TFT so does DVI to HDMI need a special cable??

Is the 8800gtx outputing 1920x1080 res to your LCD at the right refresh rate ???

(you have to have a look in your LCD manual for which refresh rates your LCD supports at 1 to 1...it be 50hz or 60hz or both)

Your LCD is a 1080p screen am guessing ???

No special HDMI cable needed for 1080p and below...(any single link HDMI cable should work)

No the panel is 1366x768 native. 720P/1080i regardless of the setting it looks the same.

But I have tried both 1360x768 & 1368x768 same issue either way makes no difference.

That panel won't do 1360x768 over hdmi, barely any tv's do.

If you want 1:1 mapping at native res, just use VGA.
It does do 1:1 over HDMI on port2 (it has 3 HDMI ports). Like I said it works fine on HDMI port2 with an ATI card but same cable, same tv looks crap on an 8800GTX!! Cannot be a driver issue as even present on the Bios screen so something hardware related on the actual card unless it is related to the type of DVI to HDMI cable I have.

This is weird.

Managed to fix it myself.

Looks likes buggy Nvidia drivers (for a change!!LOL).

There is a note on the 158.22 about having to create a custom res then tick treat as a HDTV and select CVT as the Refresh rate standard but that is buggy yet after applying an Nvidia hotfix for overscan it now works fine under XP but the Nvidia fixed image scaling is still broken though........
